kiffin to FAU

He's a good coach but I don't think they're any more scarier than in years past.

Calvin Ridley should easily have over 1,000 yds.

66 for 727 isn't using Ridley enough IMO.

I'm fully conviced Uncle Rico could call plays and they'd still score 40-50 on most

Not to bad considering their QB is a true freshman, not a very good passer and really more of a RB than a QB... Like him or not, that's what Kiffin does..

Kiffin did this to himself, there is no one else to blame. This might not be the job he was wanting but it's an open door as no major program was going to take a gamble on him. This could be exactly what he needs to reinvent himself. If he plays by the rules, and improves the FAU program he could possibly change people's opinion about him.

Calling it career suicide is just dumb. FAU has gone bowling in the past, as recently as 2013. C-USA is not a very strong conference outside of WKU and with Brohm leaving, they might even take a step back. ODU finished second in the east this year and we don't have a competent qb for next year. A couple of 8 win seasons will be easy at FAU and Kiffin will be moving on to greener pastures. No one lands softer than Joey Freshwater.

He will stay there a year or 2 and move on to a big time job don't like the dude but he can get more out of a QB than i have every seen, he made old CROMP look like a AA HIS LAST 5 OR 6 GAME'S.

Kiffin is the only coach I can think of who was gifted several major coaching opportunities without really paying any dues. Kiffin established his pattern at UT which gave him an incredible opportunity after being disgraced in the NFL. He immediately connives via Pete Carroll to bolt Knoxville and take his coaching caravan of O and Monte out to LA. Oh on the way out he tries to sabotage the Vol recruiting class. Pat Haden was so disgusted with him - he is fired on the tarmac.

Houston expected if they invested in Lane he would reciprocate by having a payback to the school if he decides to run away without completing his contract. Kiffin wanted a head job - any job - just as he did after getting fired by the Raiders. Sucker Hamilton hired him. He did not care particularly what school hired him - just wanted their job. South Florida made a much better choice with Strong. Houston also with Applewhite who was a known commodity.

The only thing left was FAU which most fans will use Wikipedia to find out if it is an online school or what it is exactly. Lane and his agent were smart to take this job as his previous escapades eliminate him from a power conference school hiring him. If he succeeds at FAU he could redeem himself and be considered elsewhere. If Lane Kiffin ever does get a significant HC position in the future - he will certainly earn it this time.

In a way it is fairly smart marketing for FAU - many fans will pay attention to them to see what Kiffin does with his latest opportunity. Maybe Monte will join him as a volunteer.

Wonder if he took a pay cut - 1.4 million at Alabama and the guy he is replacing at FAU made 500k

Now that he's no longer at Bammer I wish him nothing but the...well actually just nothing. Hopefully, we never see him at Neyland again. Will be interesting what assistants will go to FAU to coach under him.

Heard Dr. Jerry Punch today on the radio talk about doing some USC games this year from the sideline.

Said some guys that use to work with Kiffin was quoted as saying "Kiffin was born on third base but wanted to take credit for a triple." Lol

I don't think he has matured but you never know. Saban kept the interviewing microphones 10 miles away from him.

Meaning assistants

They put everything in the Fisher basket and came up broke.

Well if they couldn't lure a head coach worth a 💩 why would assistants flock there? Their AD is pathetic and has made a mess of their athletic department. What was once a coveted job several years back won't be until Alleva is gone.

Egad! Seems just like yesterday he and Orgeron were booking for the coast, trying to take Vol commits with them. Time wounds all heels.

With Richt, Strong and kiffen, that should complete the Southern Florida coaching carousel for a while. Maybe he will steal a few prized recruits from McElwain but not enough to be successful.

Looks like our TE Coach is safe for now.

He took a pay cut to take the job. He clearly wants to coach again.

Well he wasn't returning to Bama regardless. He may not have got more than that somewhere else anyway (though I imagine LSU would have came close), plus the fact he wanted to be a head coach again.

And every other assistant. I didn't even know what Kirby Smart looked or sounded like until he took the Georgia job.

Kiffin will have to recruit against, Fisher and McElwain and Strong and Richt just in the state as well as UT and Georgia, etc. It will make for some interesting battles.

Boca is nice

Especially the early bird specials...
