Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

Men coaching both sides is irrelevant. Pat was the woman who made a women’s sport relevant. She is the most important historical figure in women’s basketball ever, and one of the most important sports figures of all time. Hiring a man in that position would be a big mistake. White is astute and aware. No way he’s going to undermine that legacy.
I see what you mean. That narrows down the "BIG SWING" candidates for sure if thats the case. Thanks for the insight SF!

I'd flip that and say from the other perspective what man would want to come here and deal with all this... Constantly under a microscope, Maria Cornelius sniffing around your locker room and the first misstep putting the drama out to say "ah ha told you so". Until the boomers die off I'd encourage most men to steer clear of this job.

I like her she was one of the few I wanted when Kellie was hired

As always, I wish you the softest of foods in the home. I made the point, you missed it. If you don’t understand the historical importance of Pat in women’s sports, I can’t help you. There is no equivalence in your analogy, which makes it comically absurd.
No. Born and raised in Chattanooga circa late 60’s to late 90’s with my mom devoutly listening to Lady Vols basketball on the radio and PAT SUMMITT never came up! It was a source of Vols pride that the women were doing the heavy lifting as far as championships. Needed a message board gasbag with a myopic narrative to educate me on how we can only do things one way. Don’t ever step on a tack…you’ll blow out a power grid. 😏

And if it's a female that's who we should get. If it's a male then that's who we should get.
A greater disservice is being done to Pat's legacy by destroying the program she built then worrying about who's coaching it.
They’ll hire a woman, who will be the best option available, but one of those “best” attributes will be the acknowledgement of the historical importance of the role. I’m just saying they won’t be forced a lesser option because of that. The best coaches in the sport are women anyway.

I agree. No man is taking the job due to what the job means.

Ummmmmm..... Geno and Matt Mitchell would like a word. Walz took Louisville on a good run. Brooks from VT to UK is a hell of a coach. That's simply an untrue statement.

Best coaches are Women statement is true to a certain point.

This years FF has two teams with Men as HC and 1 of them has won double digit National Championships.

Sounds like an opinion. Detest Auriemma but WIN/LOSS records and CHAMPIONSHIPS are a thing, and Wes Moore is upper echelon without a championship. Not even bringing Vic Schaeffer into the conversation. Other rising stars and more behind them. You’re a reverse misogynist. Mebbe dump the fake insider gig and get tenure teaching that in college. 😉

Geno and Walz did have great runs. Staley and Mulkey are currently better. I'm talking about now and best. Brooks is another good coach. No qualm with that. I’m saying the hire will not require a compromise to get the best and also get a woman. I’ve heard the short list and it’s not something we’ll see as a compromise if we get anyone on that list.

“Best” unless you count the ones who win more than them. 😉

Exactly... What is more likely

Karl Smesko
Wes Moore
Jeff Walz
Bart Brooks
Lisa Fortier
Kim Stephens
Molly Miller

Kim and Molly both being swing for the fences types of hire. I think Karl or Kim would do great here if they have interest. The others have great track records for longer periods of time.
Smesko seems to be the leading candidate for the Miami job. He deserves a shot at a power five school. His winning percentage is something like 86 percent.

Ok. How realistic is the short list? Are they currently at a big program currently.
Lastly just for her fans, how far down is Molly?

I think most would agree that Staley is the best NOW. That’s my point. Mulkey is probably 2. She’s nuts, but she wins. That isn’t who we’re hiring but I think they’re perceived as the two best.

What the hell does Pats legacy have to do with hiring a new coach. Pat is a legend, and that is the problem. Whoever they hire, people have to stop comparing them to Pat, because the recruits of today don't care about her. To them Pat is a legendary old coach from before their time, and what she accomplished doesn't mean squat to them. You have to live in the present, and if a great coaching prospect is a man so be it. I have great respect for Pat, and I'm sure most coaches do too, but I doubt they will come if they know, at this late time, that they still have to live up to her accomplishments. The new coach, whether a man or a woman, brand new or a veteran, all need the support of the fan base. They will be here to do it their way or they won't come. Give them a chance and let them mold the team to their system. Hopefully they will hire assistants that know how to recruit, and don't get caught on the premise that their own players will follow them. That would be a temporary fix, and what you need is a coach that will be here long enough to build a program that you all can be proud of.

Three. I think the reach candidate is A+, but long odds- maybe a one in three chance. They have expressed an interest in making her the highest paid women’s coach, with upside. Maybe she’ll listen. The other two are impressive, and an upgrade and both very interested as their agents reached out to us. It’s perceived that enough time has passed that someone can take the job and not be following Pat. Molly is not on the list of three. I think White will get this right.
