Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

Tomekia reed watch out for this name in the lady vols search
Agreed, but she is down the list a ways. She has dominated at Jackson State. Losing 1 home game since 2019. Absolutely dominated her league for years now.

If you look at demographics, there are more men who are sports fans, particularly those who self-identify as avid, than women. Women's numbers are climbing in that regard and probably we will inside of a decade see equivalence.

Flipping it, I think it is a good sign that women's are drawing more men (and Dads who are likely bringing their daughters and perhaps sons to women's sports events).

I've been following Lady Vols bball for over 40 years and I'm not seeing a swing of men getting more involved. I also follow the men's side: bball, football, baseball... Now, high school level I would tend to agree with you. I'm getting up there in years so I don't attend games anymore but my wife and I watch every LV game that we can find on TV... I watch the stands for attendance and it seems like attendance may be somewhat down from days gone by. Hope I'm wrong. Anyway, I hope you are correct in attendance going up.

I’ve always been pretty casual as far as my investment in the Lady Vols. Watched their games always, taken kids to some, grew up when Pat was getting it going here. Never been as invested as I was with the men’s team, but always watched and rooted for them.

However, if DW brings in Becky Hammon, I’m seriously getting season tickets and will go back to taking turns taking each of my kids to games. The enormity of a hire like that would generate a lot of renewed or new interest imo.
I really don't think you could get a better hire than Becky Hammon. I've watched her here with the San Antonio Spurs & she coached the D league. I would hope that if the money was right & contract that she would come to TN. However, being so successful with the Las Vegas (LV) Aces (it's a sign--lol), I doubt she would give that up. That would be a great hire in my opinion. What player wouldn't want to come here to play for her with ties to the WNBA and her track record?

Geno and Walz did have great runs. Staley and Mulkey are currently better. I'm talking about now and best. Brooks is another good coach. No qualm with that. I’m saying the hire will not require a compromise to get the best and also get a woman. I’ve heard the short list and it’s not something we’ll see as a compromise if we get anyone on that list.
Wonder if the list are the same names that Eric Cain mentioned?

Becky Hammond won 2 WNBA tiles wym no coaching experience 😭

The Becky Hammon rumor seems like a click bait named being dropped by AZsports and other on-line sports sites. Hammon has a dream WNBA job with the best talent in the world, a string of titles, and she seems committed to growing the WNBA (or being the first women head coach in the NBA).

She has the coaching chops for sure but recruiting high schoolers year in, year out (in this brave new world of NIL and easy transfers) may not look like paradise versus her current WNBA gig.

I know, I know WE ARE TENNESSEE!!! Heck I am surprised Hammon is not offering to pay Danny White a million + a year just to have the job....

The only thing I would wonder about her is could she recruit? Now one could assume her name alone would work. But looking her up, I don’t see any college coaching experience.

Becky Hammon has bigger fish to fry. Her ultimate goal is to be a HC in NBA and actually i believe she will with the backing of individuals like Pop

Exactly... What is more likely

Karl Smesko
Wes Moore
Jeff Walz
Bart Brooks
Lisa Fortier
Kim Stephens
Molly Miller

Kim and Molly both being swing for the fences types of hire. I think Karl or Kim would do great here if they have interest. The others have great track records for longer periods of time.
You consider Molly in the same league as Mulkey?? Please tell me you are joking.

Again $$$. Cost of living much cheaper, safer place to raise a family. Also have I mentioned $$$$. That's why all coaches leave their job, unless fired.
Not to get political, but given the rollbacks on laws in Nashville, that will factor into a lot of folks' decisions.

Noone here believes she will truly take the job, but there is absolutely no reason we dont kick the tires here and gauge interest. One of the most prestigious programs in the history of Women's basketball wants you to be their head coach and willing to pay you 2x more than you are making now is kinda intriguing. Like SF said in a few posts earlier. This is going to be a female hire for obvious reasons.

1.) Becky Hammon
2.) Niele Ivey
These 2 probably wont take the job given their current job status, but like i said you have to make the call here to gauge interest.
3.) Lindsay Gottlieb
4.) Molly Miller - I like this hire, She is young and knows how to win. I think you give her the resources we have and sky is the limit.
5.) We are in trouble if we make it this far.

I didnt mention Dawn Staley for obvious reasons. UT cannot take another public NO like we did with the Clemson OC during the football search. Not with this program.

Thanks, That was an excellent read and a very fair and balanced take on what Kellie did and did not accomplish. I 100% agree that her gains over the first four years were not enough to withstand a regression season, even if she faced some injuries woes, given the related fact that she just could not bring in enough talent, Kellie's dilemma was not quality but a quantity vis a vis top programs' recruiting. But the article also inadvertently highlight the ticking time bomb in the current scenario:

The next coach of the Lady Vols needs to be a good recruiter, a good developer, and a winner. Most of all, they need to be a good person who won’t compromise for the sake of winning, but they also need to actually win and do so at a higher level than what the program has seen in the last decade.

So, Danny White go hire that unicorn. You get a really small set of folks who fit that bill and Tara ain't leaving Stanford for a rebuild job at age 70+.

Kellie hit of those notes and as the article also notes she was hamstrung by NIL deficiencies. If EarlVol was correct that NIL help was coming, I would have loved to see how Kellie could have done with a more level playing field.

As it stands, the program is in a very precarious position...

I don’t believe it for a second, that she’d take the job. However, would be cool to try, and if she somehow did take it, it would be enormous.

When the tires are kicked make sure the person doing the kicking has some steel tipped toes in those shoes because the tires are probably flat and foot will meet cold, hard steel.....toes and foot will be at risk .
