Kirby Smart Named UGA Coach?

You don't go from UT to Arky to Pitt and be on a track record for success but spin it as a super awesome upgrade. I know we would be doing the same. Pittman is good but UGA has had a solid oline most of the time during the last 15 years regardless

Sam Pittman good, Jim Chaney meh; Chaney was ok at UT but did not do well at Arky, Enos has made him look like a fool in one year. Not real sure how this is an upgrade for UGA. You replace Pruitt with Smart, probably a draw. You replace Richt and Schotty with Chaney, a downgrade or draw at best. Definitely not an upgrade at recruiting on offense, probably on defense but Pruitt was a great recruiter as well. I am not sure where UGA is really upgrading, not to mention the unknown of Smart as a head coach.

Yeah because he didn't have two 1000+ yard RB, a QB who threw for 2300 yards and a 4:1 TD to INT ratio. Chaney got FR and SO laden teams at the skill positions. Enos got a JR and SR laden team.

Schottenheimer was awful, their offense managed less than 20 ppg five times. Or almost half their season.

UT Offensive ranking.
2011- 104th
2012- 18th
I'm gonna disagree with you about his time at UT.

Chaney at Arky offensive ranking.
2013- 100th
2014- 63rd

And that was with a coach who forced him to run a lot. So I'm gonna go on record saying Chaney= Not shabby sir.

Pittsburgh O is ranked 76th this year. UGAs is ranked 75th. He got pushed out of Arkansas.

This is not a home run hire

Arkansas to Pittsburgh is a downgrade. He was going to be fired if he did leave. Tyler Bray was woefully unprepared for the NFL. It's a desperation hire

Perhaps Bielema didn't give him the chance to call his game and Narduzzi would. Chaney isn't a run the ball 40+ times per game OC.

Then why did UGA hire him? UGA is a running team, just like Arkansas. Their QBs and WRs are slaw. This screams "Oh &@$! Eason is coming for a visit, we must have an OC here to greet him since I'm still coaching Bama"

Running team under who? This isn't the same staff. How do you know what Smart wants to do on offense?

BTW, in the same season Gurley and Murray led the SEC in rushing and passing. Murray is the SEC's all time leading passer and holds the record for most TD passes. I'm sure that qualifies UGA as a balanced offense at minimum.

Murray isn't at UGA. They don't have a QB or any decent WRs. They have good RBs and OL. If they try to turn UGA into a pass happy team, they will turn into a 6-6 team.

It's common knowledge here that Chaney wanted to throw the ball. CBB wanted to run. They butted heads. Chaney was let go.

Chaney to UGA is a good hire.

Where would Chaney fall in the hierarchy of SEC OC's/OC head coaches in terms of he would be an upgrade or better:
Alabama- Lane Kiffin: No
Arkansas- Dan Enos: No
Auburn- Gus Malzahn: No
Florida- Jim McElwein: No
Kentucky- Shannon Dawson: Maybe but his track record is just as good
LSU- Cam Cameron: Maybe but his track record is just as good if not better considering his NFL tenure
Mississippi- Huge Freeze: No
Mississippi State- Dan Mullen: No
Missouri- not filled
South Carolina- Kurt Roper: Maybe but he learned under Cutcliff
Tennessee- Mike Debord: No
Texas A&M- Keven Sumlin: No
Vanderbilt- Andy Ludwig: Maybe but he had great success at Wiscy

The better question now, is he an upgrade over Mark Richt/Schotty? Richt had great success at UGA and FSU plus Schotty spent several years in the NFL. He would not be an upgrade over Richt and a maybe over Schotty.

He is a bottom tier SEC caliber offensive coordinator. He is not a program or game changer like a Gus Malzahn, Hugh Freeze, Jim McElwein, Dan Mullen, Dan Enos, Kevin Sumlin type hire. He is a safe, solid hire but to suggest that this is somehow a great coup by Kirby Smart is silly. He isn't even an upgrade over Mark Richt.

Everyone knows Holgerson called the plays at WVU, not Dawson. UK's offense produced less yards, less points, more INT's, lower completion percentage, less 1st downs and more TO's per game and Towles greatly regressed under Dawson. Dana's Okie State and WVU success didn't carry over to UK like they expected.

I wouldn't disagree with that but some of that has to be on Towles. He is a poor decision maker in the pocket.

it's a good fit. I believe Smart will run a pro style, single back offense. chaney is good for that offense, and i don't think there'll be much of an identity change in Athens, as to what they want to do offensively.

chaney has a proven track record as an oc, and is a solid hire.

I agree.
