Knox Catholic High/Clemson

THe fact that Mays never committed to Clemson right off is a good sign tho.

Dabo has a strict policy that once you commit to clemson, you are no longer to communicate to any other school or he will drop you off his recruiting board.

Mays left it open ended

It wouldn't be right to pressure a kid into playing for a coach he doesn't like. That would make our entire fanbase look insane.

That's the sort of weak minset that has made Tennessee a laughing stock.

You're either wish us or you're against us.

If Cade Mays don't wanna be a Vol, then he better not have any plans of coming back to Knoxville cause traitors are not welcome. And that's what you are if you are a local kid who turns down UT for another school. A TRAITOR.

The people at fault when it comes to this are the people in Knoxville who will cheer for these kids when they turn their back on their home state and play for Clemson. Guys like Tee Higgins and Cade Mays should be ostracized for not going to UT. They should feel social pressure to represent their home state. And if they don't wanna do that then get the hell out of Tennessee and never come back.

Yeah, I guess it's lucky for us that we don't recruit players from other states because people back in these players' home town would ostracize them and they would never be welcome back where they're from.

Spot on! You are allowed to go or you want to for college, there is no law says you have to go to in-state

It’s hard to believe Knoxville has allowed one of its best football school become a recruiting stronghold for Clemson. Clearly they recruit Knoxville talent that is steered away from TN. I sure hope Pruitt can clear whatever poor taste that lingers with their coach after he left the TN program as a transfer to Memphis in the early 90’s or that he is removed from Knoxville soon.

Sorry intended this for the recruiting forum.

I really don't think it's Catholic's coach. Butch sent his kids there to play. I think a lot of the current issue is Amari Rogers. He did not wish to come here and I think he is a great recruiter like his dad. I think he had a lot to do with Tee Higgins flipping and had a lot to do with Cade becoming interested in Clemson. JMO

Possibly, but Butch likely sent his kids to Catholic because Butch is Catholic and it’s the only Catholic HS in Knoxville. Let’s not forget that Harrison Smith (a 3 star haha) spurned Fulmer to go to Notre Dame.

A weak mindset would be getting your feelings hurt because an 18 year old doesn't choose your team, then badgering him about it. Win the games and there will be no pressure necessary, Tennessee will recruit itself.

I personally would just ignore him if he comes back. Nothing special to me about any player from another University. I wouldn't be rude to them as if that player has success elsewhere they will just flaunt their success even more. If you ignore them they don't think they get under your skin.

I thought I read somewhere there is an attorney from Clemson that lives in the Knoxville area whose kids may go there that is very instrumental in the recent Clemson success.

This is absolutely insane!!! Yes, lets ostracize 17 year old children because they don't commit to the school you have chosen for them. Ridiculous. If you want to know why these "kids" go elsewhere, this may be the answer!!

Mind is blown by this comment, the fact it got 6 likes is equally as troubling. You people need to get a grip. This doesn't make you the worlds best VOL...it makes you a complete D**K!!!

Not so sure about that approach.

The high school coach plays a big part in recruiting. Kids are kids. Matthews has an ax to grind for not getting to play qb at Tennessee when Fulmer was OC. He transferred to Memphis. It seems pretty clear he’s steering these kids to other schools.

Look, Tuscaloosa or Athens would never let this happen. Even if they were down. The coach doesn’t like TN bc Fulmer wouldn’t play him. It’s that simple. He needs to go.

Yep obviously there is no Vol For Life there. If so there is no way he would be sending them out of state.

UT needs to get him out of that role because it's costing the school BIG!

Are you a troll? Cause that is just stupid. Look, Trevor Lawrence should come to Tennessee. He’s making a terrible choice. And he’s not from TN. Those kids left because of Butch period. Our piss poor administration hired the clown. So we own it. Higgins made a purely business decision and he was right at the time. Mays is wrong, sorry, but Friend is a great coach, this staff is going to win, and Dabo will be gone in a few years. But like the others, it’s his choice to make.

Take off your tin foil hat. This type of entitlement is part of the reason UT has struggled so much the last decade. Catholic has no incentive to send guys only to UT. They do have incentive to send guys to National Championship rosters, which Clemson has produced lately. Additionally, based on the religious makeup of East TN, I'd venture the bulk of Catholic's student population is composed of transplants, so a there likely isn't a huge sense of loyalty around the campus.

UT needs to be better at football and better at recruiting. The coaches need to earn recruits, not just sit back and expect schools like Catholic to hand them over.

Yes, I've posted it already on Volnation at least three other times, but I'll say it again here.

It is an absurd travesty of the highest order that Knox Catholic, a private school, is allowed to participate in a public school division. Their state title this year (and the subsequent ones sure to come) is a complete joke.

TSSAA needs to fix their classification, but I ain't holding my breath.

AV

PS. I obviously hope all of their good players, private or public, figure out it's time to start committing to the Vols. Congrats to all the KC players (none of this is their fault) who did what the TSSAA required them to do - beat up on public school teams and win the title.

Wrong! These kids are absolutely not mostly transplants.

Don't blame the kids for not going to UT. I don't blame Tee Higgins for not comming here. The way Butch ran this offense. If your a good WR you not going to UT anyways. Now that Pruitt is head coach that will change.

If I was a 5 star recruit I wouldn't gamble my college career on this. He knows Clemson is a championship program.

Seems like a very strange mentality to me. I am from NJ and went to Clemson, after looking at schools all over the country. Should I have been “ostracized” for not going to Rutgers? I get that Mays has a familial connection but it just seems oddly presumptuous to assume that a kid needs to go to the major school most geographically near where he grew up...🤔

I think a kid should go to whatever school he feels is best for his future. Having said that, the thing that's baffling to us is this. We've had player after player who claim that they are die hard Vol fans, who end up going to Clemson. I don't know about anybody else but that just seems a bit odd to me. I know that if I had had a committable offer from Tennessee when I was 18 I wouldn't even entertain an offer from another school.

I remember when UT recruited so well NATIONALLY that they hardly even recruited local kids.

God I wish we could get back to the good ol days.

? Lol maybe they just don't like the direction of the program?

Can't say I blame Higgins. Why come here to just block. Mays doesn't know Pruitt.

Doesn't know Pruitt?? But does know "Clem" (as in Kiddlehopper, ole Red Skelton character) I would think he would know Ala. DC as well as Clem DC. I, like others, wonder about "help" from high school coach making decision. However, Mays has stated he wants to win championships. I guess he thinks there is no way this can happen at UT in his probably 3 years of college. I just wonder if he had been thinking over the last few years of watching UT he thought a NC was in the future under Butch.

I’ve read a lot of idiotic things on this message board but this may top them all. To fault a kid, or anyone for that matter, because they didn’t blindly choose a school based solely on its geographic location is moronic. So you can’t or won’t support a kid because he does what’s best for himself? Higgins is a receiver and Tennessee was obviously not developing receivers while Butch and his staff were here but Higgins is supposed to jeapordize his future and risk not getting the most from his potential and attend anyway? And you think it’s wrong to support a person that makes a smart decision like that? Unreal.
Give you a like BUT.

Their was a guy some years ago who turned down the top spot in the US Army because he couldn't go against his home state. From what I have learned, he knew his side couldn't win, but could not go against his "people and state". Granted he was not favored very well after the conflict, but his legacy has outshone the guy who bested him in the great conflict. Of course thou, he was not as self centered as some people this day and time.
