Knox Catholic High/Clemson

THe fact that Mays never committed to Clemson right off is a good sign tho.

Dabo has a strict policy that once you commit to clemson, you are no longer to communicate to any other school or he will drop you off his recruiting board.

Mays left it open ended

He still hasn't officially signed anywhere. He'd be better off signing with UT in the long run but it's his choice.

I personally would just ignore him if he comes back. Nothing special to me about any player from another University. I wouldn't be rude to them as if that player has success elsewhere they will just flaunt their success even more. If you ignore them they don't think they get under your skin.

That is the gentlemanly and proper thing to do. It takes 11 to win games. Don't like the fact that he was committed to UT for so long but that's life. We can't lose a thing we never had IMO.

Are you a troll? Cause that is just stupid. Look, Trevor Lawrence should come to Tennessee. He’s making a terrible choice. And he’s not from TN. Those kids left because of Butch period. Our piss poor administration hired the clown. So we own it. Higgins made a purely business decision and he was right at the time. Mays is wrong, sorry, but Friend is a great coach, this staff is going to win, and Dabo will be gone in a few years. But like the others, it’s his choice to make.

Lawrence lived in Fall Branch for quite a while. Grew up big UT fan. Simply didn't fit CBJ's scheme.

If I was a 5 star recruit I wouldn't gamble my college career on this. He knows Clemson is a championship program.

Face reality. UT projects a bad image currently that's gonna take one good year to move past. 0-8 record in SEC and the fact that Currie teamed with Haslam to get another yes man of a coach revealed some backstabbing or was interpreted that way. Other recruiters use this against us. That's the way the ball bounces. We as fans need to look on the bright side about all this. Things could be worse. Above all quit living in the past. We're at the bottom of the SEC currently not even going bowling and we have to fight for recruits against the best teams in the country. This isn't gonna change overnight.

I've had multiple kids go through Catholic. The student population is as much pro-UT as any other high school in the area. There are no more "transplants" at Catholic than at any other Knox county school.
I do certainly agree that UT needs to be better at recruiting. But Matthews has no bigger relationship with Clemson than he does with any other college football program.
The difference is the kids and their families. The vast majority are success driven. Several years ago, in my niece's graduating class at Catholic, there were six classmates who received appointments to the service academies- West Point, Anapolis, and Air Force. That's in a class of 150-ish students. I say that to make a point: the kids at Catholic are attracted to success in all facets, whether it be sports, service, or academics.

Some of you are taking my comments about Catholic High far too personally. My primary point was that Catholic doesn't owe anything to UT merely because of proximity. My comment about transplants was mostly anecdotal. Growing up Catholic in Knoxville, most of the families I knew were originally from MD, PA, or NY (mine included). Lots of Steelers fans, Eagles fans, Penn State fans, etc.

I'm neither taking shots at the school nor stating anyone who went there can't love East TN.

Guess it did not take with me:eek:lol:

Didn't take it personal my man. Just trying to set the record straight as it stands currently.

About 2000 or so I ran into Fred White in Six Flags over Georgia and he was wearing his National Championship ring. We were in line next to him got a ride at same time. He let us take a picture of him and a close up of the ring. He was a kid from Georgia who played at Tennessee. I talked to him. He seemed genuine that he enjoys rubbing it in to those that make a big deal of him leaving. Bragging rights. Unfortunately Cade Mays is going to be parading around here with his stuff. If prefer to not even act like I know who he is. Save that for the guys who played here.

The people at fault when it comes to this are the people in Knoxville who will cheer for these kids when they turn their back on their home state and play for Clemson. Guys like Tee Higgins and Cade Mays should be ostracized for not going to UT. They should feel social pressure to represent their home state. And if they don't wanna do that then get the hell out of Tennessee and never come back.

That kind of sentiment is wrong. When the Vols' play improves, kids will want to come. Right now, it's hard to blame them for looking elsewhere. I still say that Mays will live to regret any decision to go elsewhere. But it's his life and he needs to do what he thinks is best for him.

My thing is this. Do you think Bama would put up with one of the Tuscaloosa or Birmingham schools continually sending top players to another school like Clemson? Hell no.

Something fishy is up with Catholic. That's all.

And thoughts like this is why they will keep leaving.

They are hometown boys - the hometowns will support their sons as they should.

According to Catholic Football twitter, in the last week...Tennessee, Clemson, Georgia, Western Michigan, Miami Ohio, Emory and Henry, Morehead State, were all at the school this week.

Previously, earlier this month, University of Charleston, UTC, Western Michigan, Ohio State...WKU at some point as well as Union and many others when their open dates gave them opportunities, came to the school.

Seems to me, they are steering their kids to College. Not a particular college. COLLEGE.
Seems to me like an open door policy for any school.

Yes, you’re right. I’m sure when asked, the coach tells Mays he would be a perfect fit for Western Michigan. (Sarcasm). Then they hold hands and sing kumbaya and talk about how every college is equal.

It hurt my brain to read this

The point that KCHS points kids to COLLEGE not a particular college is spot on.
Mine is a recent Grad and I saw the entire experience being aimed at being able to succeed in college. They place something above 95% of grads into Universities and service academies.

And a couple go to Bama.

That was kind of the point. Cade Mays is not the only player on the team, not the only senior, that will have the opportunity to play college ball. The assertion that the coach at Catholic has some kind of beef, or has a preference of one school over another is just silly.

Sometimes the truth is simple, sometimes there's no need to look for conspiracy theories.

Sometimes it's just as it appears.

We can all imagine what the sales pitch for Clemson is, can't we?

We can imagine what the sales pitch from Georgia and Sam Pittman is, can't we? I mean maybe Will Friend will be great, but I mean Pittman's had at least 2, maybe 3 guys drafted in the first round.

"Be a part of the Class that brings UT back to relevance."

How many times have guys Mays' age, from around these parts, heard that pitch?

Here we are again with a new coaching staff, a recruiting class in disarray, coming off an 0-8 SEC season, no bowl game, a coaching search that lasted nearly a month and defied all logic.

What's not to love?

My son has played at Catholic last two years on the same O line with Cade. I am positive that HC Matthews has no ill will towards UT and just wants what is best for his players.
