Knoxville Restaurants

We had Wok Chow last night...

Lobster Rangoon (it was burnt)
Wonton Soup (outstanding)
Jalapeno Chicken with brown rice (good)
Drunken Noodles (very good)

Tried the new Gus's Fried Chicken on Sutherland. Not sure who the interior designer is but apparently they were short on $$$ and hit up the salvation Army Store.

Food was good, not out of this world. $28.50 for two, 2 piece dinners and bottled water served on a Styrofoam plate.
I think I'll pass next time.

I'm gonna call BS on that price tag

Unless he's including tip, I guess. Which means he's getting a sitdown meal with chicken he said was good and sides which he alluded to being good with a tip for less than $30.

2 white meat meals and two bottled waters would have been $19.90 before tax.

Geez, it's a tough crowd. We added one small Mac and cheese and a $4 tip for the young lady who delivered all of those styrofoam plates and plastic ware. You do the math. No BS. My point about about the décor and plastic erthang, ,for $30 it was overrated. I'm calling less than 5 years and that location will close.

I can do that. How about a wager of a Rib eye sandwich.
A caveat, I've been in the foodservice industry 40 years. I've had a few chicken dinners and watched many a location come and go.

Another caveat. I've been in it for 12 and I'm from Memphis, so I've seen this company continue to grow without needing to close stores. They're also in a relatively inexpensive area. And their food is good, as you've said. And they're swamped all the time. And they're most likely serving the best fried chicken in town.

They'll continue to exist because Gus's is about the food and food only. You go in there to get good food and you get spicy, juicy chicken with tasty sides.

I'll move on after this post.
You should recheck your information. I'm certain Gus's has closed some locations, a Nashville store comes to mind.
Like all fastfood chain business not every location will be successful and stores will close. That doesn't mean the business is floundering it's just the nature of the business.

It's my opinion the ticket price for the area, and a meal that should be served at a walk up counter" at this facility"was about $3.00 - $5.00 above what it should be.
There are a lot of options for the family dollar and a few $$$ could be a difference maker.
As I stated the food was good so obviously that's the main key, best of luck to them in that area.

The only real successful business in the area that has survived long term is Dead End BBQ. That's an entirely different story as they started that business with a built in clientele of local big money.

Holy Land has been kicking for awhile, too.

Savelli's

There are several outdoors/bicycle shops that have been in business in that area for a long time.

Stopped by the Vol Market on Western Ave a few days ago. First time stopping there. I must say their bacon cheeseburger was pretty good for the price.

One of the outdoor businesses has closed, along with the coffee shop, deli on the corner of Liberty, Davincies, etc. Howeverver the barber shop, tattoo shop and Sutherland Ave Deli still holding on if you're looking for a cut a tat and a dog

Always wanted to try Gus's. Gonna have to go sometime in about 6 months, after it gets stabilized with everything.

Don't bother, the flatware is not acceptable and the decor....OMG, deplorable. No need to worry, it won't last another week in that slum

Gus's will survive because of two reasons: Cheap rent, and there is no other location in Knox County.
