Knoxville Restaurants

I made the terrible mistake of going to Panda Express in a pinch before a movie tonight. The fact that people actually eat there more than once is an embarrassment to modern civilization.

Panda Express is terrific.

It's like your average hole-in-the-wall dirty Chinese, just less dirty and less terrible for you.

First off, the restaurant was in disarray: garbage overflowing, tables sticky, and both tea dispensers without tops.

On to the food: I swear that was canned chicken, there was a film of grease over everything, and they use so much salt/soy sauce that I probably am holding 10 pounds of water weight this morning.

As for healthy, when I ran the numbers my meal clocked in at over 2000 calories, 70 g of fat, and 2.5 GRAMS of sodium.

If it tasted good, I could maybe justify the splurge and flush out the sodium, but Little Bangkok is less than a mile away and is approximately 500 times better. China Pearl and Pei Wei are also right there.

For the longest time that location was owned by Ruby Tuesday Corp and they would use it to launch new concepts. I thought I read where they finally sold it to the people who own Hurricane but maybe they didn't and they're at it again.

This was all true. It's no longer a RT building.

I believe they actually bought the Alley, not the other way around.

They bought the old RT building and put a franchise Hurricanes. Then they bought Docs and made it The Alley. At least, that's how I think it went down...they own both.

Perhaps they will skip the franchise fees and put something new out there.

The last I had heard about the Hurricanes is that it was originally a franchise and they went corporate. So I'm not sure the business side of it, but that's info based on a friend who used to work there until just after they went corporate

What's the deal with the ghost Sagebrush in Oak Ridge?

I swear nothing has moved there in more than 10 years, but it looks like everything is still inside.

Not that Sagebrush needs to come back, but its just odd.

Radiation hazard. Nobody can go in because it's too hot.

Any thoughts on a kid friendly restaurant in Gatlinburg? BBQ, burgers, Mexican, Chinese etc. Thanks for any tips, must be suitable for a toddler so no white linen places.

Yeah, they're like the Vanderbilt of all the Chinese places in Knoxville.

List of places where you can buy/try it.

You can also get World's Fair beer by the growler at McScrooge's.

Since I last posted about it they are selling it at Cedar Bluff liquor store also. It's not bad actually, a little hoppy for my tastes but if you are an ale fan get a taster of it.

Awesome dinner at Nama in Bearden -- ordered a chef creation for 4, which included tuna, yellowtail, escolar, mejina, salmon, et al prepared with a variety of chili and eel sauces, mango, watermelon radish, and avocado. I should have taken a picture. Our waitress was exceptional.
