Knoxville Restaurants

In case anyone wants to or doesn't know, I learned Gus's Hot Chicken will be next to Savelli's on Sutherland.

Yeah, I read about that a while back. Aside from the unique success Savelli's has had there in that location it is just a bad area to put a restaurant in general. I mean what were they thinking when they chose that area to put Gus's?

Stuff seems to be headed down that way though. Halfway between UT and all the newer Bearden stuff, so I think it'll be OK.

Dead end, holy land, that chicken salad place all seem to work ok.

It will be a destination eatery like Dead End, as long as it is like the original. Being from Memphis, I think Dead End sucks, but Gus's is the business. The original in Mason,TN was the real deal and all the other locations in Memphis that I went to were 95% original. If it as good as those, it will be a destination.

I hope so for them.

holy crap I was just missing Gus' yesterday when I had to have Bojangles

There is nothing wrong with Bojangles, their chicken is good with just a mild heat. What I like most is their other menu items especially their breakfast items. I've never been before but I bet Gus's is far more kicked up than Bojangles.

Nice. I'll be interested to see if it lives up to the hype.

Gus 's Friend Chicken is the best friend chicken I have ever eaten, period. It is not fancy in any way but they know how to season and fry chicken. I wish they served a biscuit instead of a piece of white sandwich bread.

Memphis has some great food. When Trip Advisor has 2 of Gus's locations listed in the top 4 of 1245 restaurants in Memphis, that says something.

I have an idea.

Honestly that's the kind of area where Gus' would thrive. Not just because of the race demographics, but because Gus' has a kind of gritty vibe that the Sutherland area would fully support.

I had a really mediocre chicken biscuit from Bojangles last week. Wouldn't get it again. I'll stick with Chick-Fil-A for that. I think their chicken, fries, and biscuits are really good though.

Interesting...I quit getting their fries years ago because I never received one that tasted good nor were they ever hot/warm/lukewarm.

Bojangles and Popeyes are more like a Big Mac from McDonalds while Gus's is more like the Bison Burger at the Stock and Barrel.

Popeyes is great, but not necessarily easily accessible. Gus' is a place to go out of the way for

There was Popeyes that build a new buolding and opened in Morristown last year in an excellent location, it lasted maybe 4-6 months and closed. I couldn't believe it.
