Knoxville Restaurants

Well I've officially had enough horrible experiences with management at the Turkey Creek Buffalo Wild Wings that I won't be going back until management is changed. The corporate office will be brought in the loop tomorrow. Pretty ridiculous.

For about half a year, we had a wonderful server every week during Trivia. She knew that, on the dessert nachos, I hated the cheesecake bites being fried. The week I told her, she explained that the managers and servers all generally have one or two if they want, right out of the freezer. As such, she explained that it was more just like having regular cheesecake, which I'd enjoy. So when we ordered nachos, she'd just grab a small ramekin and grab 3 or 4 from the freezer and give them to me, so I could enjoy the dessert like everyone else at the table.

Anyway, she just left the company because of graduation and a real job, so we had a new server the last few weeks. Last week, I asked for them to not fry any of the bites and just put them on the side and the manager came out telling me that they wouldn't do it. He dug into how I used to get them, talked about that being the same way that he ate them (admitting to grabbing some and eating them on his own), then refused to let me have them how I wanted them and had them get microwaved before sending them out to the table (something we hadn't even discussed).

So this week, we were told before ordering them (from the same server as last week) that they were going to refuse to do them the way I wanted again. It upset me to the point that I was considering a course of action (GM, district manager, twitter, etc), and the same manager from last week told me to go and get on twitter because it would just get our old server into legal trouble. Dude went straight to blackmailing a former employee.

Done. Sorry just had to get that off my chest before I call corporate in the morning.

I'm probably gonna go in, pay for like 15 $4 orders of bites and call it done, so they can't go after the server.

Lol! That's hilarious. Sounds like me with my Skittles rant. If the old server left the company there isn't a thing they can do to her so that makes very little sense. Why the hell does this guy care anyway, if you want your bites frozen that's a lot less work than frying or microwaving them. The manager went and made it personal.

You made me think of these when you mentioned the dessert. Not cheesecake bites but cream puffs. If you like a cold dessert these things are awesome when eaten frozen, they're not hard.

Next time you're at the store check the freezer section. They're like crack.

Holy cow. Just don't fry/microwave the man's cheesecake bites. How hard is that? And why on earth would they decide to fight some battle over this? It's incredible how stupid some people. Just give the customer what he wants and keep him and the whole crew happy.

Legal battle over an employee that's not there? What is this manager's IQ? Is he related to the Averys? Wow.

Too many people are just flat out idiots. Why kick this obviously regular business to the curb over a customer simply not wanting it fried? Unbelievable.

That's what I thought.

To throw on top of it, a few months ago we won and were supposedly given the $50 gift card. The manager had mistakenly put the wrong gift cards into the wrong sleeves before he gave them to the trivia guy, so I received the $20 one. When I went to pay the following week, my card was obviously far less. Bringing it up to the management, they started questioning me about why I didn't check it and how they would know if it was their fault. I was getting attacked by management for something that was basically their own fault.

Oh also, the one who messed up the cards the week I'd gotten it was the same one blackmailing the server. Unsurprisingly.

Like dudes...just do the right thing. It's amazing how they're managing to do the wrong thing so. many. times.

It was odd. He'd initially tried to go high and mighty and say that he didn't feel comfortable serving me "raw" food. Like hey jackass, cheesecake bites ARE. NOT. RAW. Just like every single cheesecake sold by grocery stores, they are baked, frozen, and shipped.

Like he was just showing how much of a damn moron he was from the get go.

Customer service is largely dead, and it seems that most of the younger generation of employees has no ability to communicate or reason. I have had terrible experiences in Best Buy and Dick's Sporting Goods in the past couple of months that left me no choice but to leave and order stuff online from other sellers. I would hate to own or manage a restaurant or retail store nowadays.

Don't even get me started on Best Buy. They're absolutely awful and this isn't a new thing they've been like that since they opened.

With crap for customer service, what reason would someone have for buying from a retail store rather than ordering online and saving money?

Sorry for the side track... Back to food.

Enjoyed a nice meal at Seasons last night for a friend's birthday. Calimari, sauteed mushroom spinach salad, lamb, and two seafood dishes were all very good. Chef Deron, as always, was attentive and easily handled my wife's gluten-free preparation.

I had a doctor appointment in Knoxville Wednesday morning. I have been feeling better and after the appointment Granny and I went to Litton's for lunch and had burgers. It was very good, better than I remembered them being. We choose Litton's over my favorite the S&B because their burgers are not as greasy. I received a good report from doc, the burger did not make me sick, it was a very good day for the ole man.

Litton gets mixed reviews but they were excellent Wednesday.

Not Knoxville, but they opened a Casual Pint in Franklin not long ago and it's not bad. Good spot to grab a pint or two.

Only been to DGB and Calhoun's/SMB. DGB is pretty good, if you can get a seat early, and I don't really care for Calhoun's. Now SMB has potential, but you get 1 excellent plate of food and 2 average.

I haven't found any Knoxville area restaurants remotely close to the quality of where I moved from (Austin, Texas). Ye Olde sucks... My steaks were horrible. Calhouns is average. It's seriously depressing what is called "good food" and "Mexican food" here.

I like everything else about the area, but food is not one if them. I chuckle every time someone says "go check out his new Mexican place, it's really good!"

Dude, you moved from Texas. You'll have to shift some expectations on Mexican...my parents still miss the Mexican food they had when my dad was stationed at Lackland so I feel your pain there.

There's tons of good food around here. Calhouns is admittedly disappointing, but there's lots of good suggestions in this thread.

Try the Beer Cheese Dip

My friend from East Tennessee lived in Dallas/FW area for 3 years. When he returned home he said about Texas - "Never have a people been so proud over so little."

Try some of these and report back: Foothills Milling Co, Citico's, Echo, Bistro by the Tracks, Nama, Knox Mason, Seasons, Conner's, Cafe 4, Shuck, and Cru.

Try La Parilla in Turkey Creek.

Then move back to Texas.
