Up until about 5 years ago I was down to 2 libs I associated with, today that number is zero and life is much more pleasantYou probably have and didn't even realize it. At the UAB game this past Saturday I had beers with about 100 people. I'm sure there were a number of Trumpers among the crowd. If any conversation ever appeared to even remotely be headed in a political direction, I would either redirect the conversation or slide over to another crowd.
When it comes to public school educators, I disagree. We must do what is necessary to make the profession of public education attractive to the skilled workforce. You also have the fact of Bevin's very uncouth name-calling here. Calling public school teachers 'selfish' or referring to them as 'thugs' was just plain stupid. They are among the most underpaid workers in our society, and they perform important and essential work. In a public feud between teachers and a politician, the teachers will win 100% of the time. Bevin needs a crash course in public relations, among other things.Nobody should receive a government paid pension unless they do 20 years in the service and even that should be job dependent.
Republicans have supermajorities in both the state house and senate. Plus, Kentucky is one of the few states where you only need a simple majority to override a veto. Republicans can basically do what they would like over the next few years. Beshear is basically neutered before he ever takes office.Only took the new Illinois Dem Gov a couple months to impose high taxes and fees on everything here and the pos isnt done yet -- brace yourselves Kentucky citizens
There were 6 statewide races yesterday in Kentucky. Republicans won 5 of 6.Bevin looks like he'sgoing to lose one of the reddest states.
Plus republicans won supermajorities in the state legislature. Beshear saved the state Democrats from the most embarrassing election night in Kentucky history. There were 6 statewide races yesterday in Kentucky. Republicans won 5 of 6.
Here are the results for Republicans with the percentage difference in vote totals:
Governor: -.4%
Atty Gen: +15.5%
Agri Comm: +19.6%
Auditor: +14.6%
Sec of State: +4.4%
Treasurer: +21.4%
Looks like Kentucky has turned as blue as the Wildcats jerseys.
Public school teachers are not underpaid. It seems as if one repeats a myth enough it becomes “truth”.When it comes to public school educators, I disagree. I think there should be no more government defined benefit pensions at all. Give them all a 15% pay increase tomorrow, freeze their pensions and give them this number: 1-800-FIDELITY for their 401k. THe .gov being able to continually go to the taxpayers to fund those retirements is asinine.Nobody should receive a government paid pension unless they do 20 years in the service and even that should be job dependent.
I beg your pardon... my sister was a kindergarten teacher at Fairview Elementary School in Maryville, Tennessee. She taught for 10 years before she died of thymoma, cancer of the thymus gland, shortly after 3 pm on Wednesday May 26, 2010 in Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville. She was earning a little over $42,000 annually at the time of her death. I call that being underpaid, when factoring in the importance of the job. Take your stupid bull crap somewhere else. I know what in the hell I am talking about.Public school teachers are not underpaid. It seems as if one repeats a myth enough it becomes “truth”.
Sorry for the loss of your sister. My only sibling, my big brother, also died on May 26, five years later to the day.I beg your pardon... my sister was a kindergarten teacher at a public elementary school in Maryville, Tennessee. That’s 4600 a month. That’s not too shabbyI beg your pardon... my sister was a kindergarten teacher at Fairview Elementary School in Maryville, Tennessee. What kind of health insurance and retirement did she have? Did she have to contribute to her retirement, or was it paid for by the taxpayer? If she didn't have to pay for either of those things, then she could have been fairly paid (for a teacher in Maryville Tennessee). And just stop with the 'importance' argument. Kids can't even make change without a calculator anymore so if their job is so important (and they are underpaid) why are our kids so stupid in basic functions?I beg your pardon... my sister was a kindergarten teacher at Fairview Elementary School in Maryville, Tennessee. First Horizon has been the national corporate name for some time now. First Tennessee Bank name has changed to both reflect the expansion of the corporate brand and that all entities including Capital Bank, FTB Advisors and FTN Financial will all combine under the common First Horizon brand. It is a branding change, but nothing more. That’s 4600 a month. That’s not too shabby
Condolences for your loss.
btw, why did your employer change their name? my letter from them was very vague.
Thank you for your explanation.First Horizon has been the national corporate name for some time now. Thanks for saying that. I think about Melissa every day. Trust me, she considered herself underpaid. LOL. If you knew how hard she worked at her job and how hard I work at mine... you would see that it is shameful that we basically made about the same, before taxes.
