Forgive me, but exactly what pretense are you referring to in this situation?
Early on the spiel was about back room negotiations and the Nike memo. Nike called it right. There will be a lot of squawking and threats. Ride it out and when the money pours in they'll reduce to clucking. . Lady Vol militants feel like they should have been consulted and that how the university markets itself should have been up to a popular vote. If you reply that no viable program operates that way, you get the "so we can't be different?" chorus. No! This isn't a Minnie Mouse social lab experiment. Take care of our players and start doing it right! The reason "other schools" do it that way? It works. :yess:
Alright, even the most established of these campaigns have, at most, 15,000 followers. Just for fun lets use Neyland Stadium as a reference. There are 102,455 people in the stadium. If 20,000 total backed this campaign (have to account for people who are following mulitple campaigns so let's say that more than half of them are on the STLV on fb) then that means that "Save the Lady Vols" supporters would account for about 20% of the population.
Nike wins. Go Vols mens and womens teams.
as i recall, the lady vols play at tba, so perhaps the administration deems the 20k plus (pretty vocal fans) not important to their one tn mantra.
From a marketing standpoint, i fail to see the elimination in the re-branding a huge "help" to the big picture. We were one before all this started, now pretty fractured, based on the folk i talk with. In fact, i can honestly say, over these months of discussion about this topic, i have not spoken with even 1 person face-to-face that is a proponent of this move, but many who get worked up about "bama dave" and "booger" (the quotations added for the negative passion relayed by others). No administrator wants to back up on a decision because it calls into question their administrative ability. So, they will have to be replaced, then their successors will put things back.

This didnt have to be done.....Bama Dave couldnt just stab the knife in without twisting it.....I am looking forward to Wednesday to see what the Football team uniforms will look like. I will continue to wear my Nike shoes......but I am not excited to the point where I will go out and replace all my addidas UT gear. I feel like Wednesday could have been fun for all if they didnt take the name away from the girls.
I noticed Nike didnt make OSU womens teams change anything Cowgirl Basketball Schedule - Oklahoma State Official Athletic Site
And this is how I feel about the whole thing, but I'm trying hard to see the other side of the argument and I just dont see it. And when asked to explain all I get is you dont understand or I get called a bigot. So I will continue my "Bigot" thinking of equality.
You've probably just come in late and missed all the postings laying the ground work. Bobby Maze said it well, "Why would you want to do something like that? Why would you want to take away from history? My mom, for example, when she talks about Tennessee, she doesn't say the Tennessee women's teams. She says Lady Vols. that's how people talk. That's history."
It is not about choosing a name; the name was chosen years ago; it is about changing a name that many feel exemplifies a positive. If the Lady Vols, past and present, had been allowed to make the choice, there might have been disappointment but acceptance. Many Vols, Ladys and Men, have spoken against this...Bobby was speaking on behalf of himself and Chris Lofton (in my opinion one of the all time GREAT Vols). So when trying to understand, start with putting yourself in the shoes of the Lady Vols and you may come away with the same view point as Bobby. I hope that helps. Appreciate you trying to understand and see it from another perspective.:hi:

I do get this point and would be inclined to agree somewhat. I just dont agree that this is the "Evil Bama Dave" and the BOT trying to stick it in the face of all the Lady Vols of past, present, and future and somewhat as a way to tarnish Pat's legacy. It is simply a business decision and one that they feel is ultimately in the best interest of the AD.
