That's the truth of it. I'll add my two cents about the changes, and about the way they were enacted, but the reality is that this is all aftershocks from folding in the two ADs and consolidating the power into the single department. Football makes the money, and whoever is in charge of football gets to make the rules. And the person in charge of football feels it's unnecessary to have the name anymore. And Tennessee athletics is a business first -- as all college programs in Division I are.
I don't think that is exactly it. I think this is coming from DiPietro and two or three members of the BOT who he has solicited for support. This Nike thing and AD consolidation is being used as a means to execute their desires. This is about being able to tell his buddies when he goes to these meetings and conferences that UT is no longer in the stone age and we have gender equity at our university and Christine Brennan won't write bad things about us anymore in USA Today.
