Lady Vols Softball Team Game Thread week 7

The 30 pitch inning and they didn't score. They don't swing at much out of the strike zone and are good at fouling off pitches.

Looks like the LVs have been lulled to sleep by UK endlessly fouling off pitches.

Keep that winning streak going. Long game 2 hours 42 minutes and I bet Ky fouled off 50 pitches we endured going for the sweep tomorrow.

Need to sweep--we are better than kentucky. Arnold has been a bit shaky lately, so wonder who starts tomorrow. If there has been one team weakness is that we haven't had the pitching depth that you'd like to have. We're relying on a freshman and a soph; hard to believe we don't have a dependable upper class pitcher.

Lockman with a good game, and Leach--such a dependable player. McSwain with a big, 2-rbi single: she and Lockman have been hitting better, though as I said earlier today, McSwain's loopy swing is not ideal for a hitter. Weimer looks good at the plate to me--had a big double and maybe should play more. Geer has been awful in this series--Prince has pitched her tough, admittedly--balls down and on the corners--but Geer is not following the ball to the plate.

Ralph may have cost us a run with what I consider a bad decision to have Gregg taking on 3-0 count with the speedy Leach on third and I think Vines on second. We were up, what, 2-0 or 3-0 at the time, and there was one out. Maybe it wasn't Ralph's call; maybe Gregg was taking herself. But Prince grooves one down the middle of the plate. Man, that is a moment when you want your big hitter taking a hack. Odds are Gregg is hitting the ball, and chances are good that Leach is going to score--either on a grounder or fly ball to outfield. You don't really want Gregg walking there, if you think about it--yea, it's another runner on and Geer, who has power, is coming up--but Prince has baffled Geer for two days--two or three Ks--and then she hits into a double play and we don't score another run. If its McClain or McSwain or a weaker hitter at the plate, yea, take the 3-0 count. But Gregg? Let her swing, baby--no brainer.

In any case, big win. We're going to keep facing good pitching from here on--but we are hard on pitchers. Prince threw a ton of pitches today. We've got a good lineup.

I cannot remember the last time we had a CF like this...Lewis maybe, Fekete(sp)....CJ is fast and has an arm

Lewis was almost as fast as McClain and was a better hitter her senior season. She didn't have anywhere near McClain's arm, however.

I felt coming into the series Kentucky was over-ranked and TN was better. The unknown for me was how TN would play against a good opponent on the road. Remembering how poorly TN played against Arkansas, it is a sign of their maturation that they jumped on Kentucky in game one and had no let down in game two. Let's hope that maturation continues and TN gets a game three win and a series sweep.

Obviously neither of us were in the dugout today, but I have heard Ralph say in several interviews that Gregg is one player that always has the green light 3–0 and they have talked with her about being more aggressive when she has that count since she faces it so often.

Ole Miss clobbers Auburn 10-4!

Florida over Georgia 5-0. Georgia really in a swoon.

TN and LSU are tied for 3rd in the standings in the loss column with 3 losses apiece. LSU faces Alabama at 9 pm eastern so I am rooting for 'bama.

Geer was bad yesterday--but I shouldn't say she was bad today, though she didn't get a hit. She hit a couple of ball pretty hard but right (or close to) infielders. Their shortstop made a nice play to turn her hard grounder into a double play.

The problem with conferences that are too big for everybody to play each other is that you get unbalanced schedules with some teams playing much stiffer competition than others. We have a brutal schedule whereas texas a&m has it extremely easy. They play EVERY team in the bottom half of the conference and we are the ONLY team in the top half that they play this season. They don't play florida, lsu, alabama or auburn. Talk about catching a break--ridiculous.

tn men tied 2 - 2 bot of 9 but just walked a gator to lead off the inning. new pitcher coming in
