Atletico Madrid is holding their own.
The exception does not make the argument. Barca and Real Madrid have ruled La Liga for years to the point that both of those teams win 80% or better of their league matches. I play with several Spaniards and I can tell you they hate how Madrid and Barca buy titles and that the league parody is nonexistent. Ask a Valencia fan if they would be more competitive with a fair revenue sharing process or a process that makes payroll more equitable across the league. Premier League is a great example of how this can work. You still have a few sides that will always be near the top of the table but even the teams at the bottom of the table can compete.
As for the Yankees, and I say this without fact checking, I'm pretty sure they were a dominant team in the modern era as well even if they have been mediocre in the last 10 years.
Been a one team league for a decade. Embarrassing.
I'm assuming Bayern Munich. I watch some Bundesliga matches every once in a great while and it seems to be a very physical and fast league. Serie A is the real embarrassment to me though. Such a corrupt league. One of the guys I play with actually played with Napoli and he's not even very proud of it lol.
Let's forget the babe ruth, mantle and DiMaggio years.
They have been mediocre for some time now.
Was that the Babe, Mickey, or Joe who was playing for them in '96, '98, '99, '00, and '09?
I mean, it all comes down to how you define "mediocre" and "some time now," but the Yankees remain the most successful MLB team in history, including recent history.
I don't even follow baseball, and I know that.![]()
Doesn't seem to hurt European soccer. Real Madrid and Barcelona have all the best players and it's the most popular sport in the world.
Major League Baseball also seems to be doing just fine without a salary cap.

Yes. Recent history with a 200+ million payroll annual.
Because 1 of the other 5 teams spending the crazy money is your division rival and 2 others are in the American League as well. With only 1 Wild Card spot up for grabs, until the last 2 years or so, there's much less margin for error in baseball.
Yikes. I wouldn't have guessed that. Thought the LAD would be up there and maybe Washington.
