Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Amash actually voted against FISA renewal. Offered an amendment to prevent Article 702 from being used against Americans. He tried to curtail the FBI and NSA’s ability to collect phone data.

It was an uphill and ultimately unsuccessful battle because the White House was pushing for (and Trump ultimately signed) a bill that expanded those powers.

Unlike President Donald Trump, Justin Amash Actually Fights Against FISA Surveillance Abuse
Maybe quoting the wrong guy, but thanks for backing up my guy.

The more I read up on how he votes the more I like the guy.

I think the results of the investigation - no conspiracy/collusion/coordination - would imply that simply was not the case. How can you be that wrong, for that long, and had any reasonably legal basis to proceed? And without conspiracy, there is obstruction of justice but there sure as hell is obstruction of wrongful hanging.

I don't disagree re: weed but if you're (Amash) not the least alarmed by in practicality what amounts to a coup, I don't want to hear weed advocacy from your mouth. Get your ***** priorities in order. Even now, with multiple instances of corruption by agency heads exposed and no end in sight, is Amash even curious? Like the absence of conspiracy evidence, his silence is deafening.
Trump isnt king. They were following thru on what they believed as per the Constitution.

I find it hard to see it as a coup if they were following the Constitution and that it would have made Pence president. If there was someone movement to circumvent the Consitution I would see what you are saying.

Was Nixons impeachment a coup? Clintons? Were the Rs attempting a coup with all the stuff they pulled on Obama?

Again this is just where the partisan hackery has clouded judgement. Just because you dont agree with their vote doesnt mean they were morally or ethically wrong to vote.

I think you meant to reply to me.

Great; it's what I like about libertarians and used to like about Amash. But when faced with a practical case of a presidential campaign, then sitting president and WH officials being a target of bureaucratic abuse of power - or at absolute best, dupes of Russian propaganda - Amash is flaccid. Talks the X & Os like a winner but stays in the locker room on gameday.

Two or your articles are from 2018 and the other form 2019. Now that we've seen FBI, DOJ and intel go after a president, even when they knew they had nothing before Mueller's appointment, and ruined others maliciously with no purpose other than to get Trump, where's Amash? This is his opening, the most spectacular abuse and corruption in our lifetime. How does he avoid driving the point home - "If they can do this to a president, a career military veteran, ruining Carter Page and Pappadopouos, etc, what can they do to you and I?" - while allegedly opposing FISA?

It's reasonable to think Amash values opposition to Trump more than the values he professes.

Here's is the Bush statement that set off Trump. I cannot see how Donnie could possibly be offended by it.
"In this type of testing we need to remember a few things. First, let us remember we have faced times of testing before. Following 9-11 I saw a great nation rise as one to honor the brave, to grieve with the grieving and to embrace unavoidable new duties, and I have no doubt, none at all, that this spirit of service and sacrifice is alive and well in America. Second, let us remember that empathy and simple kindness are essential powerful tools of national recovery. Even at an appropriate social distance, we can find ways to be present in the lives of others, to ease their anxiety and share their burdens. Third, let’s remember that the suffering we experience as a nation does not fall evenly. In the days to come it will be especially important to care in practical ways for the elderly, the ill and the unemployed. Finally, let us remember how small our differences are in the face of this shared threat. In the final analysis, we are not partisan combatants, we are human beings, equally vulnerable and equally wonderful in the sight of God. We rise or fall together and we are determined to rise. God bless you all."
It didn't praise Lord Red Hat. That is also why everyone on the board is turning against him. Rino and such.

So convenient that it popped up as states were reopening

"New"

Fair on the word "new". We've heard about this European form for a long time.

However, this is first I've heard it called a strain - but I wonder if "strain" is significant. Is it actually a separate strain or just a genetically different form? If it has different transmission properties I think that would qualify. And, heretofore, I had not heard discussion that we had data supporting it is more virulent or harder to recover from.

That simply isn't accurate. They knew before Mueller's appointment the dossier was garbage, that Page was a CIA asset, that Flynn didn't lie. They made the word "Russia" radioactive, then jailed Pappadopoulos for 13 days on a process crime in a sting they set-up, for not copping to saying the word. Nothing about this was constitutional and only fools or dishonest people would claim it (that's not a personal attack). Two Horowitz reports now document the abuses.

Nixon's impeachment was actual prosecution of an actual crime, as was Clinton's (excluding debate about whether an investigation should have been predicated upon his lying). Did FBI, DOJ, or intel manufacture evidence, falsify and/or omit exculpatory evidence in the numerous FISA warrant applications, contract with foreign spies and use their own (and even brag about it), to get Obama? Well, no; because there were no such warrants or political weaponizing of those agencies to do so.

Partisan hackery has nothing to do with the evidence that there was no case, there never was a case, so how the fook did Comey, McCabe, Brennan, and Rosenstein take it this far? Whether as a point of origin, or connecting dots that weren't there, at some point these people thought Trump damned guilty of something and by God! we're going to find it no matter how many eggs we have to break.

I think your last sentence is referring to the Ukraine impeachment, and not what I'm discussing, though no less politically motivated and no less a blatant coup attempt.

How do you guys keep missing the point I was making? I spelled it out fairly clearly. It had NOTHING to do with Bush's statement.

This may be ignorance on my part but:
What's Congress's option for punishing the FBI etc in a presidential impeachment trial?

Wouldnt any of them fall under the DOJ before Congress? Had that happened? Is that what was being covered in the impeachment process?

Amash is big on by the book (Constitution) work.
1. Dont think Congress even has the ability to formally punish the FBI et all. So hes not going to overstep on that. This could be ignorance on my part but I thought this was all executive branch stuff.
2. It was a presidential impeachment trial/hearing. Not a FBI hearing. It wouldnt even be the place for him to be negative of the FBI.
3. I havent read, has Amash made a statement on the why of his vote? For you to say he suddenly thru his principles out the window I would need to hear the reasoning rather than assign my own.
4. Just because there are dirty cops involved doesnt mean a base crime never happened.
