Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

At a JBS USA plant in Greeley, Colorado, absenteeism is running as high as 30%. Before the pandemic, it was about 13%. The company is paying about 10% of the workforce -- people deemed vulnerable -- to stay home. Others aren’t coming in because they are sick.

So typically absenteeism runs about 13% according to the article and they are paying 10% of it's workforce to stay home due to them being deemed vulnerable by the company itself. So they are seeing about a 7% increase in call outs. That article headline is painting a picture that just isn't there.

Also from the article
The company has had more success at its plant in Souderton, Pennsylvania, which also reopened recently and is running “beyond expectations,” JBS said.

So out of 1500 that tested positive only 150 had symptoms of covid
About 1,500 workers came in for the first day of free testing, with about 10% of them showing symptoms of coronavirus, she said, adding that test results were expected within 48 hours. The plant has about 3,700 employees, and testing will continue for the next several days.

More numbers from the article paint a death rate of .004% which tell us maybe this Virus isn't as bad as we once thought
Conditions at U.S. meat plants contributed to increased risk of infections, and ultimately more than 4,900 workers fell ill, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The agency cited difficulty maintaining social distancing and adhering to the heightened cleaning and disinfection guidance among the factors that increased risks for workers. There were 20 deaths among employees as the virus spread to 115 meat plants across 19 states, data through late April showed.

So this essentially this article and its title were meant to stoke fear, however I took away some positives from it

Speaking of slaughterhouses, I have a close friend who owns two BBQ restaurants. He got his last shipment of pork from his supplier yesterday and has not been able to get beef or chicken for almost two weeks. He will be out of pork later today. He's called around and none of his other suppliers can get him any meat. The food situation is about to get hairy.

Just like with the Russia Investigation, it could never sustain so they had to turn to Ukraine. Now rona can't sustain so we will move on to food shortages. The 24 hour news cycle is what started the downward spiral

Rarely do I disagree with you. On this point you are dead wrong.

If you lived up my way (Boston) and saw all the hearses driving to and fro lately, it might seem more real to you.

"About four in ten adults (37.6%) ages 18 and older in the U.S. (92.6 million people) have a higher risk of developing serious illness if they become infected with coronavirus, due to their older age (65 and older) or health condition (Figure 1; Table 1). "

How Many Adults Are at Risk of Serious Illness If Infected with Coronavirus? Updated Data
Wait wut? 18 and older is a long shot from 65 and older. And that's nothing that hasnt been said elsewhere previously. Those at risk are at risk. Just like they are for everything.

An aside those maps were interesting. In the south our young arent as healthy as the rest but our old are more healthy than the rest of the nation. It's strange to see such a flip like that.

Ah never mind they changed the values, our old are still better than the rest, but not to the degree I first thought. (50% vs +60%) and our young arent as bad as I thought (35%vs +40%)

Pence says the task force is winding down. Trump gives reasons why.

Next day, Trump says task force continuing. May replace people.

Who can possibly vote for this schmuck again?

therein lies the problem....some people would rather risk their life than have the government serve its purpose. Over some falacy that it is a handout, but they don't have a problem with the government giving corporations a tax break. The government is funded by taxes. Take care of the citizens so that citizens are not forced to put their lives in danger.
Who would be forced? Stay home, stay in bed and others will go to work if you are that afraid.

Your whole premise is lame. The government cannot steal any money from people that aren't working. I guess you just don't get where the government gets it's money.
