Whitmer: Husband made 'failed attempt at humor' in dock request

Lansing — Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said Tuesday her husband "made a failed attempt at humor" in asking for the installation of his boat to be sped up in a call last week to a Northern Michigan dock company.

"Knowing it wouldn't make a difference, he jokingly asked if being married to me might move him up," Whitmer said of her husband, Marc Mallory, during a press conference.

"He regrets it. I wish it wouldn't have happened. And that's really all we have to say about it," Whitmer said.

So wait, you trumpers have the W.H.O. recommendations back on the menu as a reputable source? And one from two months ago?

Spare me your indignation, it requires low levels of common sense to acknowledge that a physical barrier is better than no physical barrier. Clearly, something that escapes you...

Cracks me up to watch otherwise intelligent people lose bowel and bladder control in order to foist such a moronic position that masks don't help prevent the spread of germs.

I'm not here to support anyone. I'm not picking sides. My point which you keep missing is that scientists are not on agreement on this. This is an issue they're still sorting out. Therefore folks ought not get high and mighty demanding folks wear masks

Not in agreement on what?

The WHO is stating that the masks don't prevent contracting the virus, and they're right.

But that's not the argument.

The argument is, and no scientist has disagreed that a physical barrier doesn't limit the spread of your germs to others.

I keep trying to explain this distinction to you, but you keep refusing to acknowledge this. Additionally, you failed to answer and alluded for a second time that someone (the high and mighty) is DEMANDING people wear the masks. Who are these people you're referring to?

Americans are being forced to wear masks because these dolts wear them

I refuse to wear a mask unless a business requires one, like the barber shop. It amazes me how many places I've been to an see people wearing masks and looking in horror at people they have to walk past not wearing a mask.

It's really tiring to keep repeating myself with you but I'll do it this once. I posted earlier that the WHO's position is this:

There is no specific evidence to suggest that the wearing of masks by the mass population has any potential benefit.

Preventing the spread would constitute a benefit. Thus the WHO disagrees with you on that. It's all documented

As is your right, fortunately most people see the value in masks - even if they don't entirely understand who is being protected by the barrier. It astonishes me that people are so freaked out about being asked to be slightly inconvenienced for the greater good.

So in my county in Tennessee there have been 3 deaths reported from covid-19 and none in the last month. The deaths were reported early on so my guess is at least 1 if not all 3 of them was a reported death of "tested positive" therefore they died from it not from the car wreck or the building they fell off of.
At some point in time we just have to get on with our lives and take the risk that we face every day. If you want to wear a mask, go ahead.

Did it ever occur to you that they disagree that this for the greater good? It's a free country and people are free to disagree

fortunately most people see the value in masks and are same idiots that play on Facebook all day

The trump administration is touting masks, even if trumps ego is too fragile to be seen doing so. The irony of trying to make the case that masks are worthless by citing the opinion of a organization that most of your ilk wouldn't trust to change a bandaid is almost too much to bear. It's almost like you believe that your argument suspends the common sense of putting a barrier between my sneeze and your face, it's such a breathtakingly bad position.

Again, who are these people demanding you comply with their orders to wear a mask? Private business owners?

What if you are of the position, that wearing one makes the person with the mask on, more likely to make themselves ill?

If the bombs dropped on targets only had a .2% chance of killing those it struck. Basically it falls right on their heads and doesnt go boom. It strange to use a wartime example and not a pandemic example.

The 2018-19 flu deaths were at about .1%, so far the mortality rate for covid is 1.3%. Are you confusing the two?

U.S. COVID-19 death rate is 1.3%, study finds

What's the rationale behind that position? If one is more likely to get ill by wearing one, then they shouldn't wear it. I suppose there could be outliers that may fall into that group (for whatever reason), common sense and risk mitigation should be the ultimate goal.

Because that’s what the CDC and doctors argued when then this first broke out and questions about masks were being asked. They argued that people don’t wear them properly, engage in behavior more likely to increase their chances of getting sick, and had a false sense of security resulting in reduced hand washing.

Septic is a liberal, so some people need to sacrifice themselves for the betterment of the whole.

LOL, apparently common sense is a liberal trait to you.

Is wearing a mask at Kroger really a "sacrifice" for you?

Is that the current recommendation from the CDC? Somehow it doesn't surprise me that our government believed its citizens were too stupid to wash their hands even while wearing a mask.

They struggled with that inconsistent messaging initially because of what I think was a pressure from the WH. Though they've walked that back, the messaging on this has left the public's trust in these and other public health organizations in tatters.
