Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Flu season really takes a toll in the fall. Not saying you may not have a point but it’s disingenuous to use 6,000 s a 2020 tally when the meat of the activity has not yet occurred
those are not my numbers and I hate to break this to you but I have had the flu in feb and March so it does happen

I actually had a vivid dream this morning about going to a football game at Neyland. Everywhere I went in the stadium, I could not see the game, but I knew it was happening because I could hear it. There were concrete walls or obstructions. It was weird. And Johnny Majors was there telling stories in one location. That was a good part. It wasn't a nightmare, just strange.

Big death tolls for the USA were predicted with no precaution and preventive measures taken. Rememberthe national emergency was declared and pretty well implemented for about 6 weeks. That bought time and short term flattened the curve, but then there was a reversal among some leaders.
I used to work for the DoD. There was a lot of work on these scenarios as part of Homeland Security during the Bush and Obama admins. Those plans were rejected by certain present political leaders.
I don't know if you notice news about the US Navy (in particular), but this is definitely a national security issue and has been fumbled. (Sorry to veer off-topic here on this post particularly, but it is an important consideration.)
So we agree that both Trump, and Cuomo, could’ve handled things better?

Yeah I'm sure COVID will happily oblige people the time needed to get skinny, much the same way germs happily observe the "5 second rule" before attaching themselves to food when it hits the floor.

He has a point. The countries least likely to wear a masks are the ones that have done the best. And the ones most likely to wear a masks are the ones with the most deaths. Seems masks haven’t done much

Know numerous people.[/

Maybe they didn’t have COVID. There’s other illnesses you know. I know I have not seen or heard of anyone who tested negative but was later (within2 weeks) to be positive. If there were numerous people, the media is missing on a great opportunity to spread even more fear.

Meanwhile numerous reports of false positives, positives when they weren’t tested and gross miscalculation of the numbers have been reported.

Listen, I recognize this is nothing to play with. I thought masks should have been worn when we **** down the economy, unlike screwball Fauci. I don’t understand why we have to have so much misinformation or reliable information withheld unless it’s for political purposes.

I know it happens. Easy my brother Not trying to insult anyone. Flu season is actually like 10 months - Aug thru May I believe. And I also was flu positive in March. It’s just there’s lot of flu deaths still to come before your 6,000 in 2020 stat is final.

No, I don’t. I don’t believe in these ill conceived conspiracies. I don’t question how old someone is or if they had a lung transplant when they die from the flu or malaria. You had an argument with New York and New Jersey as well as California but not with heavily pro Trump governors in Florida, Texas, Georgia, and Arizona
I am not the one questioning ages or comorbidities. Those are always present across all causes.

I am questioning why this is still getting as much attention when our death rate is just at 2010 numbers.

It's always a shame when someone dies. We could always do something more to help, especially with the communicable diseases.

Seems crazy we went from zero to 100 for this.

All I know is the flu and pneumonia have taken the year off. over 34k in 2019 vs just 6k in 2020 and I do not remember people living in fear, wearing masks and trying to cancel everything and stop living. People are told to live in fear and that is exactly what they are doing. Before anybody tries to say wait until somebody close to you gets it. Well too late, my wife had it back in early Jan and they had no ideal what to call it ,so they called it a upper respiratory infection and she was laid up for about 10 days. Right now one of my friends was told that he has it but there is just one little problem with that. He was never tested for it. So believe whatever it is you are going to believe.

Extremely unlikely it was anywhere in the U.S. besides maybe Washington state in early January

No athletic conference is going to "force" a season in the face of a public health crisis. They aren't going to risk getting their conference in the newspapers as having told kids to play sports or lose your scholarship. They would get murdered in the national media.

Any dumbass that thinks young people do t play a part in prevention isn't paying attention. Anyone who says "they can survive it" isn't thinking this through.

LOL , the bottom line is,where are all of you people at during Flu season? Are you wearing masks and trying to shut everything down?
My answer to that is no. That’s because 65+ don’t have a 10% mortality rates. Not worried about my children’s grandparents as much with the flu

In all seriousness I would love to see this link. I am unaware of this. Is it total number of deaths or per capita?

Or, more people are wearing masks because of all the deaths...

Sounds like the strange dreams I have on a regular basis. Had dreams three times in my life about something that came true soon after. All of them was related to death, one being Dale Earnhardt.

But we had a sizable portion of the population that was not wearing masks until recently(mid-July) before the recent spikes. That makes your argument invalid and wrong. Reopening too soon during the last two holidays is the reason for the COVID resurgence in some parts of the country.

The media definitely has reported that many scientists believe that the numbers are, if anything, underreported. For some reason, the opposite narrative is the one that's gained traction on this site.

Yes the media would report that. They bury stories from the other side. You HAVE to admit that.

I'm not buying a subscription to the Washington Post. If student athletes don't want to play, next man up. If you don't understand the economic impact(s) of playing SEC football this fall, you need to get an education. Are there risks? Sure! People are suffering brain damage, bad knees, all sorts of things from playing football. There are people dying from cancer, wrecks, heart disease, alzheimer's, gun violence, and on and on. I support opening up and playing. If you do not play, you lose your scholarship. Simple as that. This concept of taxpayers or fans paying for you to get an education and not playing football or working to pay for it is ridiculous. That dog don't hunt. It is a free country. Free not to work and free to go get a job.

It's impressive that you have come up with so much stupidity in one answer. Lets break it down one stupid statement at at time: 1) The economic impacts are only to college sports, which is actually due for a correction. I'm a hospitality industry business owner here in Knoxville and we all know that there will be less than 50% capacity, and that already hurts businesses because we really only make money on traveling fans because we already get all the locals the rest of the year, so football not being played doesn't hurt us that much further, and could help us if it creates a safer community. Plus, most of the successful owners don't really plan on football revenue because if the team isn't good, then there isn't that much more money anyway. 2) Your other causes of death "...people dying from cancer, wrecks, heart disease, alzheimer's, gun violence, and on and on." None of the things you listed are hyper contagious viruses that even if they don't kill you can have long term ramifications on your lungs, heart and other vital organs. 3) College is still about education, so you're going to force someone to abandon their education if they don't risk it all for your enjoyment? How are you that stupid? 4) The taxpayers and fans don't pay for any athlete to get an education, so you obviously have no idea how the economics of college football work. The athletic department doesn't take any money from the university, which does use tax payer money. Plus the meager $100 or $1,000 you spend a year doesn't pay for anything for an athlete. That money comes from TV and media revenue. Being this dumb is no way to go through life son.

Sorry to write a book, but there was a lot to unpack there.
