Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Republicans can play politics as every party has done but nothing compares to Pelosi. Ripping up the SOTU speech-infantile. The Barr hearing a few days ago-the most embarrassingly performance by a political party ever. What a disgrace they are. Tell me one time that you saw Republicans acting in a childish manner like the two incidents I noted above .There are many more.

That Barr hearing should be exhibit 101 as to why we don't have better people choosing to be public servants. That was disgraceful

I'm sure the media coverage will change a bit in January when Biden actually takes over because he will not be the kind of person to just ignore what's happening and pretend it isnt a real problem.

Also you are talking about months from now and the spread of the virus may well have calmed down by then, so the coverage of the situation may be different because the situation is different.
Trump has done plenty but nothing he does right gets any publicity unless it’s somehow spun to be bad. How do you think we are so close to getting a vaccine on a novel virus in less than a year? Did that just happen without any input from Trump? He hasn’t done everything perfectly or close to it but to say he has done nothing is ridiculous. Not surprising given all the BS fed by Dems and MSM these days but ridiculous nonetheless.

The MSM reported a lot of different scenarios when the experts were trying to figure it out. As knowledge has evolved, so has the reporting.

The difference is that Trump claimed there would be 11 total US cases. We will hit FIVE MILLION. This week.

And yet he refuses to admit its a problem. Even when he reads from a script that acknowledges reality, within a day he is distancing himself from it and yet again minimizing it.

Why? Is he really that stupid? Is he insane?

No. Its because his one and only concern is how it makes him look to 1) have the problem at all, and 2) he has to double down and defend his inept response. It just makes it worse.
I believe at the top of Trumps worries is that he does not want COVID to permanently handicap the country and hurt the welfare of its citizens and possibly precipitate the countries decline to a third world status. Thus he knows it is imperative the US open back up even though it will be painful. It’s a tough spot for him to be in, you are going to be condemned whatever decision you make. Think about that the next time you decide to bash Trump.

You knew going in, with any unknown virus, it may never go away. They predicted 2 or 3 waves. We're just lucky it's not deadly to most people. Sad truth, running around like it's no big deal doesn't help matters either.
Kind of sad that many people don’t realize how horrific this is going to be because we did not only lock down the most vulnerable. Homeless and people unable to feed themselves. Sadly the future for millions of Americans

There's a balance somewhere, limiting the spread while keeping the businesses running. I thought the whole notion was to prevent our hospitals from collapsing until we get a vaccine.

The whole notion was to slow the first wave. We were even told that it’s going to do the damage it does. Then the narrative changed. It changed to we must save all lives. Which isn’t possible. And we can take precautions. But the virus is going to do what it does. All we can really do, without destroying millions of lives, is hope we get better at treatments, find a vaccine, or achieve herd immunity. Oh or it dies off on its own.

A balance like sweden took?

Even if we couldnt have done that in our biggest cities, we probably could have in about 95% of the country. Locked down the big cities and moved on.

You left out the part about doing what we can to reduce the spread.

No, a balance, like being responsible, while going on with our lives, responsibly. This is not an all or nothing situation. Pretty much what we are doing, now, minus those who say it's not worth the effort.

It highlights shortcoming of a service based economy and low paying jobs to begin with. Some seem willing to sacrifice the elderly in order to save those poor service industry jobs. That's what's F'ed up.
