Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Being told. Jesus H Christ, I'm not some ****ing sheep. I've been actively involved in following research in my field into aerosol droplet dispersal and diffusion, implementing it in clinical and educational settings, and providing feedback for further study.

Based on that research, my wife and I decided to send our kids back to school in person in September. We attended church in person until Cuyahoga went purple and the church decided on its own to go remote until February to let things cool off. We do takeout when budget allows and do limited shopping trips to locations that require masks inside.

I even elected to teach in person following implementation of the CU / CBDNA aerosol study recommendations.

Being told, my ass.

Now you tell me the mechanism by which mask wear fails to stop aerosolization. Be specific.
Does it increase infection bc people don't wear them correctly? Bc they touch their face more?

It sounds like you're going down the road of "if you can't wear the condom right, just raw dog it."
That's a prosperous comparison.

95+% of people out and about are wearing masks, and places like California have unimaginable lockdowns in place, yet case numbers rise at record rates.

And, for the love of all, don't even get me started on "wearing the mask correctly." Watch a sporting event. Go to the store.

Yeah, if you're going to remove your condom 743 times, touch other people without washing your hands, and put the damn thing in your pocket mid-use, it's probably worthless. Or *perhaps* it might even increase your risk of spreading infection.

Ah - you're coming at this from the direction of the mask preventing self infection. The mask works to prevent the wearer from infecting others. Like doctors in surgery, the mask keeps their germs from me and not vice versa.

And if people aren't going to be disciplined enough to keep their hands to themselves, wash and sanitize their hands, and keep their face penis covered, then they need to stay home or stay away from others.

Could this cause a big red blister on your penis?

The city of Chattanooga voted to give every employee a $400 bonus if they've been working from home and a $500 bonus if they have to go in to work. $1.7M that could have gone to all the places that the mayor shut down and threatened with the health department goes to the people that haven't missed a single paycheck this year, worried about making a note or lease payment, or plowed their life savings into preserving their families' main source of income only to see it shut down again with no relief. The true heroes who sit at home and say they can't process that request because city hall is closed. These are the people throwing you $600 so you can give it right back to Amazon, Walmart, or Target while your small business community dies and they complain about "the corporations". Sixteen(!!!!!!!!) people are running for mayor in 2021. Three ran in 2013. They have seen the power boner Berke has had for the last nine months and they want a piece of that action. They too want to bring a city to its knees while petting their dog on a Zoom video and telling people to stay safe and healthy all while having no fear themselves of job loss, eviction, bankruptcy, or domestic strife. I hope people have a long memory.

Excellent question. Conveniently, I have several friends who are surgeons and they explained and debunked this myth early on. You can quickly Google "surgeons masks infection" for yourself, or I can provide scholarly articles for you.

There is actually no conclusive evidence that surgical masks decrease bacterial infection rates after surgery. In effect, they are worn to keep nasty debris off the surgeons' faces and out of custom. This become even more problematic to the "pro-mask" argument when you consider that viruses are 1/10th the size of bacteria (or even smaller).

I feel they give people a false sense of security...... From my experience..... they protect against projectiles but do very little from keeping the virus from going through and around the mask.

Disaster fatigue is a real thing. I don't support their decision to attend, but it's not my decision to make.

We'd probably be in the clear or mostly in the clear if we'd actually taken it seriously for longer up front.

What country took it seriously and is in the clear?

New Zealand.
Wow.

We've been through this: NZ is quite possibly the least representative country in the entire world to the the U.S. For reference: if we could take the population of Kentucky, give them a Colorado-sized land mass, and float them out into the ocean 1,000 miles from the nearest civilization, that would be a representative group.

Anyone who thinks New Zealand is analogous to our country in regards to C19 plainly does not understand the situation. If they don't understand the facts here is it even worthwhile to discuss it further?

Or ...Or ...you can stay away from the ones not wearing a mask . If you stay away from me not wearing a mask , neither of us need one . If you have a mask on and I don’t , I don’t need to wear one . I don’t see the problem .

And everyone celebrating their freedoms is why Tennessee is the laughing stock of the world right now with the highest infection rate per 1000 people anywhere on the planet. So yeah, go and enjoy. I can't come home for the funerals
you are as emotionally overdramatic as ever
