Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

We've seen it time and time again. Trump says he recommends getting the vaccine, followed immediately by minimizing that with a comment about honoring personal freedoms.

Tucker et al at Fox tell viewers to get the vaccine. But constantly run stories and commentary suggesting not so subtly that it is not really needed.

DeSantis decries Fauci and CDC guidance.

All of this to minimize the worthiness of the vaccine and appeal to a political base that longs for proof science is bad.

But here's the problem. Vaccination stalls. We stay below herd immunity as a result. And so mutations have time to spring up. Time to spread. And the vaccine slowly loses what might well have been knock out power.

The window to gain victory is not forever because of the mutations. The more people and the longer the period of time of unvaccinated status we have, the greater the risk.

And then when the vaccine is not as effective due to the irresponsibility of the deniers or minimizers or excuse defenders, the harder it is to get people vaccinated. And we end up with even more mutations, and so on.

People who have gone out there and IN ANY WAY hinted, suggested, or supported people not getting vaccinated are causing deaths. And they are just making it worse each cycle we deal with this.
Except the virus still lives in and can mutate from vaccinated people. So all that nonsense you just typed is just that, nonsense.

We know that the adverse consequences of Covid include death in the most extreme cases.

Again, I'm not arguing for reinstituting the mandate. I don't really have a dog in the hunt because my school-aged child is homeschooled. But I don't buy into the argument that it's absurd to request that some accept an imposition for the sake of others. I definitely don't think it's too much to ask that we not threaten doctors over it.
Ok in all sincerity you’re not really inclined to speak on this subject then when your kid is homeschooled and not subjected to this mandate. Kudos to you for that; seriously. But how can one say it’s not too much of an imposition to ask of a kid when it’s someone else’s kid?

You won't.

On a side note, I was asked to show my ID at Total Wine today to prove my legal status.

When will this tyranny stop?
You must be under 21. I asked that question a lot back then. Luckily, there were some spots close to UT that were a little less tyrannical (thanks Dave!).

Again, we do it when necessary. Whether it's necessary in this case is up for debate. But accepting reasonable impositions for the sake of others is a part of existing in society. We don't blast music at ungodly volumes at all hours because others need to sleep. We wait in line because others got there first. We don't walk around naked in public because others don't want to see that. Society only works because we compromise when need be.

I don't mean any of that to be a direct comparison to mask mandates, so we'll see who bothered to read down this far.

Again, my issue is not with the position of the folks at last night's meeting. My issue is with their behavior. We have got to stop dismissing vile behavior out of our ideological peers, on all sides.

There’s probably close to an equal amount of mask mandated school districts as there are no mask mandated ones in the country. So within the next 90 days we should know their effectiveness and be able to put this debate to rest.

I’ve gone down a rabbit trail now but is there many (if any situations) where your kid(s) would have to wear them 6-8 hrs a day? Because saying we do when/where necessary is not the same as what these public school kids are being sanctioned to.

Saying we’ll find you, or whatever ridiculous stuff they said, is going too far but again at some point you have to push back and do it hard. We’re in this mess because we let a bunch of bureaucrats (and Dr’s) go against all facts, data and, the word of the decade, SCIENCE push baseless edicts on us for 18 months with little resistance now we have people who have finally reached breaking points. Had we pushed a little harder, a little earlier perhaps we wouldn’t have gotten to this point.

Get him out of the public education sewer.
I’m the product of public schools, my mom strictly taught in public schools for 30+ years, and my sister is the Dean of our public HS. I said I would never send my kids anywhere but public schools. I have one year to make up my mind and it’s leaning away from my raising; and my public educator family completely understands it.

Well the problem is that in places that are more likely to have mask mandates (like northeast compared with south) you have a higher vaccinated adult population which has shown to result in lower case counts in those under 12 who haven’t been vaccinated.

So it would be unfair to compare covid counts in florida as kids will be more likely to be infected at home than to another state with less spread in the community with a school mask mandate. Would be interesting to see if there are districts with similar vaccination rates among adults looking at masked vs unmasked but a lot of other factors like population density, how much kids are tested, class size that will make comparison difficult if not impossible.

Nah, people are reaching breaking points and becoming physically and verbally abusive because they're mentally weak and undisciplined. And if they go to my church, I would bring them up for removal from any voluntary leadership positions for violating multiple tenets of the Christian faith as outlined in scripture, but I digress.

And you actually don't mean all science, just the science you like. My field and professional associations have been knee deep in research since this started and have a wealth of practical research and even video examples that demonstrate and explain the research methodology and conclusions visually. I'm glad to share it for you to peruse of you're inclined to have an open mind.
