Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Maybe 15% of people on the 5 hour train ride my wife and I took last night had masks on. On the metro in DC, it was even less.

That’s interesting. I was on the metro last week during morning rush hour and it was close to 90% masks. I was red line -> yellow line.

I live on yellow, so we were just on that one. I wonder if people are just getting more comfortable. Then again I wasn't on in the middle of rush hour either.

I was riding from Bethesda to DCA.

On the trip to Bethesda (which was outside of rush hour) I would say it was closer to 40%.

I wonder if destination/origin have anything to do with it too. I live on the Virginia side, I was showing my wife how to use the system so we were just going straight in to the Archives station.

I would guess that VA originating riders are much less likely to wear versus those originating in MD. And MD originations are slightly less likely versus DC. But that’s just my gut instincts…not backed up by any info or observations.

New York City Health Commissioner Ashwin Vasan Warns he will 'seriously consider' Bringing Back Face Mask and Vaccine Mandates 'if we move into a high risk environment' as Covid Alert Level is Raised To Medium

New York City's top health official says mask mandates and vaccine checks could make a comeback as the city battles a slight uptick in cases and hospitalizations from the omicron BA.2 subvariant.

Commissioner Ashwin Vasan - who previously sparked outrage when he said children under 5 will stay masked 'indefinitely' - has announced that restrictions will come back for all New Yorkers if things get worse.

Let's see how these red state governors handle this. Either they match the zeal of the blue state government efforts and fight this, or they do as they normally do (outside of DeSantis) and fumble the ball.
I’m guessing the Biden admin is going to declare a national emergency of some kind and use emergency powers to mess with voting.

It will likely backfire on them. Voters will rebel. Even with all the covid restrictions in 2020, Republicans still did very well down ballot from the President

And that is what I'm saying. These red state governors are going to have to be prepared to withstand the inevitable BS and lawbreaking that is coming. The Federal govt should not have control over state elections.

My campus has no mask mandate. Professors can ask that you wear a mask in their class, but are not allowed to make any comment or take any action if you choose not to wear one.

The number of students who are choosing of their own accord to wear masks indoors is an interesting phenomenon. Our choir is on tour; they were all masked for the two weeks leading up to it thanks to a flu bug going around town. I have also had more students notify me they aren't coming to class because they feel ill, then the clinic sending their teachers a visit notice.

If something good comes from the pandemic, I hope it is that we see a continued trend of increased self-care and community awareness.

Is the Professor masked?

If it was a Math class I wouldn’t care.
If it was a History class I would mirror the Prof

There is one thing good that came out of this. People that are sick are actually staying home, even with other infections like the flu and strep. I used to get so mad when people would come to work with the flu and such.
