Latest news on starting QB??

Silly question. Play them all, let them all win.

To be serious, Worley has what it takes, as does Peterman. If it so happens that one of the youngsters competes and wins the starting spot - hell yes roll with it. That means we have a special QB on our roster.

Have the coaches decided who is starting yet? If not when?

Tyler Page
Nathan Peterman
Patrick Ashford
Justin Worley
Joe Stocstill

Additions:
Charlie High
Josh Dobbs
Ferguson

??

My guess is Worley, too much experience!

I have no idea who will end up being the guy in the fall, but isn't the passing game in Butch's offense somewhat similar to what Worley ran in high school? I feel like Worley may be a bit better suited to this offense than the long ball offense we've ran the past few years. Not that his arm isn't powerful enough to throw the long ball. I just think that an offense focusing on more short precision passes and intermediate passes may be a bit more in his comfort zone.

They need to get better at reciever or it won't matter who's throwing the ball!

Honestly I'm not too worried about our WRs. Sure, we have a glaring lack of experience there, but we have some talented guys at te position. And we'll only add to that in the summer and fall. I can't help feeling like Butch and coach Z will be able to put 3 solid starters on the field with one or two more rotational contributors.

Maybe I should be more concerned, but this group reminds of me of our OL a few years back: it should be young and inexperienced with plenty of natural talent. Hopefully butch can coach them up better than Dooley I'd though.

In before someone jumps in and says a few years ago our OL sucked. They didn't suck. The O-line coach sucked.

Crompton says that amazing things happen when you have a coach who knows how to coach up a QB.

I notice that during practices, NP is throwing more interceptions than Worley. I'm sure we want our QB to throw to our receivers and not defensive players on the other team.

NP will and is getting better because he has a coach that's going to make him better. So too is it with Worley who has a tad bit more game experience and is dead set on having his chance as starter. He will be working under a unified and consistent system which boosts confidence because you know what your coach(es) want done game by game, play by play. You're going to see exactly why he was Gatorade player of the year. You might even stop badmouthing him as a result. Just maybe.

Bray had no coaching up just like Worely, but his spark and talent was evident as soon as he took the field against SC...i haven't seen anything to wow me like that yet about Worely......and ofcourse he is throwing fewer pics so far...Peterman has zero experience...

I will keep an open mind on Worely, but i really think Peterman has more talent from what i have seen...and i am really stoked about Dobbs. I just can't help but View Worely as a long term game manager...and HS stats do little to impress me.

Yeah, Bray was never coached up.......

We went 7-5 5-7 5-7 under Dooley.....

IN THE SEC and playing Bama every year.

Dooley wasn't a great coach, but he could coach...

I guess the Cowboys were like "Yeah, He can't coach. I know, lets hire him."

The fact that we are all debating who will be the QB with all these great choices has me very excited! I can hardly wait for Game Day!GO VOLS!!!!

Turnovers.

Unless he's improved by leaps and bounds since the departure of Dooley then I'm not excited.

Thats exactly what is being reported. He takes better care of the football.

The "leaps and bounds improvement" needs to happen on the other side of the ball....and that is an understatement.

He went from head coach all the way to receivers coach. Not back to coordinator (which he has never been), but back down to position coach. It may be the Cowboys, but doing that far should tell you something about his higher level coaching skills.

He proved over and over that he is, in fact, a great coach. Just not lucky, I guess. Can't believe we would fire a guy with his level of coaching ability. Just look what he did as a coordinator and specific position coach---oh wait!

Actually, he was hurt some of those games and did not play and many games he played injured because even injured, he was the best we had.

Patterson is already gone so we can't see why he was Gatorade player of the year

Not trying to be a Worley hater(I hope he does good especially if he starts) but anyone that wants to use the vandy game as proof of how good Worley was, please go back and watch the game and tell me when he throws a pass over 5 yards

He threw the ball where he was supposed to throw it, when he was supposed to throw it. The ball went where it was supposed to go and got there when it was supposed to get there. Isn't that what QBs are supposed to do?

Why do we need one that can run?? We have one of the best O-lines in the country

There WILL be downs where everyone on the OL is covered. It's nice to have a QB who can run when the passing option is no longer available. Even if he gets only 3 yards that's better than 0.

His Vandy performance actually wasn't too bad, in context. His INT was CP's fault for running the wrong route and Hunter dropped a TD pass thrown by Worley. Also one of Worley's pics was against Georgia southern on a batted ball at the line of scrimmage.

Still, he'll need to play better than we've seen from him if he wants to beat out Peterman and the freshmen in the fall.

People are quick to point out that Peterman has turned the ball over in the spring and I'm assuming they're referencing the scrimmage where peterman threw an INT, but they fail to note that the pic he threw in the scrimmage was from a ball batted at the line of scrimmage.

Both guys have thrown some pics that aren't necessarily their fault. Whoever the staff decides is the guy, I'm sure he'll give us the best chance to win.

Worst case scenario neither Worley nor peterman are the guy or perform up to par this year and one of our highly regarded freshmen win the job next year.

Either way, whoever wins the job will have a strong OL to lean on this year

Darth_Shiveman, just a note on my part. It's my understanding that NP has thrown several picks. Several meaning what? Don't know but I seem to recall while reading in the UT updates on the UT website one or more coaches saying this. Worley was mentioned as having thrown one. It's just practice now, we'll see what happens down the road when games are played. It just appears at this point Worley is leading in terms of taking care of the football command presence in the huddle (game management) etc. No matter, I think we're going to be in a very enviable position QB-wise and the newcomers aren't even on campus yet. We may very well have a situation like the 2010 Packers with a Rodgers - Flynn combo.

This is actually the one thing I didn't like about Bray. How can someone 6'6" not fall forward for one dang yard?
