Les Miles fired....

Les needed to go... it was pretty obvious... the other option was for Les to do a good job, but that wasn't happening nor going to happen. It is clear LSU was regressing last year... they had personnel coming back... there is no excuse this year.

After 10-15 years, its about time for a change anyway... you see it over and over.

LSU is in a better position to get a good coach and come in and have success. Already have so much talent. And anyone could recruit at LSU. They won't be anywhere as hurt as UT was. UT didn't have that much talent when they fired Fulmer. And at the time, the state of TN didn't produce that much SEC talent.

This is definitely true. What coaches have retired at their peak? How many have lasted more than 15 years?

Virtually all of them run it into the ground. Change is okay from time to time... Les has been a great coach and he is a knucklehead and his watch never works, but he is a good guy and he is a good coach in many ways. It is simply time... there is no easy way sometimes.

I think it was also reasonable for UTK fans to expect that Fulmer's replacement would be an upgrade. Looking at who our rivals were bringing in at the time and the program's resources I expected us to get our own Saban/Meyer/Richt. We got who we got and the rest is history. Kirby was a hot name but I don't see SEC schools making those homerun hires right now.

I also think that thanks to Saban and Miles, there is an entire generation of LSU fans who don't even know who Archer, Hallman and Dinardo are. They can't get their heads around the idea that a program with such history and success in a fertile recruiting ground could get lost in the wilderness for a decade or more. They may be in for a rude awakening.

That is well-stated. Archer and Hallman were before my time but I remember watching DiNardo-coached LSU teams as a kid. Looking back, it is hard to believe how they were that bad for so long. A string of incompetent coaches will do that.

Tom Osborne left after 4 consecutive BCS bowl wins and going 13-0 with a Natty in 1997.

But generally speaking, yes, they all run it into the ground or get fired.

Pretty much.

Les on Dan Patrick show. (Sad to see him go, although he had to be done imo )

CLM: Are you kidding me? I've had a great run at LSU and had a blast the whole time.

Can't imagine them keeping Orgeron after his OM disaster. I don't even think he's a good interim choice

I may have missed it in one of the reports, but who is going to be calling plays for the rest of the season?

A day after LSU fired coach Les Miles, Alabama Crimson Tide and former LSU coach Nick Saban questioned the move while also praising Miles as a coach and colleague.

"Les Miles is one of the most respected colleagues in terms of the rivalry we've had, the competition we've had," Saban said Monday, according to The Tuscaloosa News. "I have a tremendous amount of respect for Les Miles and what he was able to accomplish there...I guess this is the time we live in."

Saban then went on to lament the fact that a coach like Miles, who won two Southeastern Conference championships and a national title, could be fired mid-season.

"I hate it that a man wins a national title, two SEC titles and doesn’t make it through the season. I have tremendous respect for Les Miles," Saban said.

I heard that interview. Les was great!

If they think Les was bad at clock management / game decision making, wait until you see what Ed O in action.

With that said, I hope LSU wins 8 straight and plays the Vols in the SEC championship game.

Well, obviously nobody has expectations at this time. If LSU could pull an upset or two, I think that would be cool... maybe some progression here and there.

Before I say anything this has nothing to do with you Bill..

Isn't it funny how everyone wants saban's opinion on any issue in CFB?? I know he's the best coach but damn

He's like the LeBron of college football. ESPN asks for that guy's opinion on everything, even non-sports issues. In this case it is relevant though - at least LSU is Alabama's "rival" and division opponent.

The Bama-LSU matchup has been the defining rivalry in college football for the last decade. I would think Saban's opinion on Miles' firing would be pretty significant.

Any chance we could see Coach Miles stay in the SEC? Maybe Kentucky or Vandy next year? If he even wants to coach next season.

I hope Ed has a fake kick or punt up his sleeve for the gators. I shall always love Les for those...lol!

Reminds me of those old EF Hutton commercials.
