Les Miles fired....

I hope they hire Kiffin as HC. He's proven he can screw up a program. Couldn't happen to any better team besides Florida.

I think they will regret it, but something has to be done with their offense. Kiffin should be all over it. Excellent program, he can absolutely run an offense and his buddy Ed is already there.

I'm sure I will be the only one that believes that Kiffin would be very successful at LSU. Keep the existing DC and put his personal stamp on the offense, could be a winning formula.

Gotta believe he has learned a thing or two working with Satan for these last years

I don't think he's learned a thing from working with Saban. If you give him the keys to the car, it's ending up in a ditch. He needs to be chaperoned at all times.

If not Kiffin, then definitely they have to take a re-tread for an up-and-comer offensive coach. I can't see like a Herman leave U of H for previously stated reasons. They might go after Whittingham or Fedora, but doubt they would leave their current jobs for that pressure cooker.

I agree.

The irony is that how Miles was fired, and how he was perceived to be fired by non-LSU people, will make it harder for them to get a top-tier coach.

First off, it looks funny to some people that he was on the hot seat/fired to begin with considering how much he was won. Then to make it worse, they were going to fire him last year, then didn't pull the trigger and let him come back with his seat hotter than ever, then fire him mid-season this year.

They have a crazed, SCLSU Muddogs-type fanbase that is awesome to have when you are winning but will turn on you so fast it'll make your head spin when you're losing.

Great ... now I need to get another translator for Coach O's interviews going forward.

Can't not wait for his pressers. His reign at Ole Miss had to be some of the most entertaining in SEC history. Well at least for everyone except Rebs

Its funny someone has this opinion.

Les cooked himself, Les was fired by LSU people, and the vast majority of the fan base is feeling real good about this.... even Les told the team it was for the best. He has borderline been trolling the media since Wisconsin, he knew he was on borrowed time.

The stupid talking heads on TV never even got a chance to speculated on this one.... Les was a good hire and this was a good fire. Nobody should be blamed other than the man himself, I doubt he will run from what has occurred... he is not that kind of guy. The team loves him that is obvious but there is nothing wrong with letting him go at this time.

Sounds remotely familiar.

According to the USA Today Miles buyout is $12.9 MM and the staff is another $5.4 MM.

That sounds pretty high but not out of the realm of amounts. My guess was in the $7-12m range, that seems a little high but also it could change depending on if people find employment. $2m for Cam, iirc.

Those amounts does not account for salary paid out this year as well. It's still a lot of dough, which is why I took what I was told about the situation with a grain of salt.. Les out if loses to Auburn.

Would Herman still be able to recruit the Houston area like he does now if he went to one those schools ? LSU is the perfect choice for him if he leaves Houston

LSU could be dangerous with Herman.
But imo.
Texas is the best choice without a doubt for Herman. He would bring them to new heights. Still could recruit Houston area and all of Texas.

Saban is still at Bama.
Chief and Sumlin are building at A&M.

Herman would have to compete with
these guys ever year if he went to LSU. Nothing like them in all of the Big 12.

Fulmer had 2 losing seasons, recruiting had really slipped, and he was pretty far removed from his glory years when we fired him. Les' worst season is 8-5, he still pulls in top 5 recruiting classes every year, and they won the SEC/played for the National Title just 5 years ago.

We were more justified in firing Fulmer than LSU is with Miles. What LSU people need to understand (and I'm not sure they do) is that you can't make just a "pretty good" hire to replace him, and you will set your program back 10 years if you make a bad hire. It has to be a home run.

Firing Miles after four games was disrespectful and shows the demented mentality of SEC athletic programs when it comes to football. The guy had a very successful record, won a national title, and yet gets sacked like an errand boy. Pathetic.

Miles should have replaced Cameron as his OC after last year--but he stayed loyal to the guy and it cost both of them their jobs.

As for Fulmer, he had lost it and his time was up. At least we were decent enough to fire him after a season and not during it.

I think it was also reasonable for UTK fans to expect that Fulmer's replacement would be an upgrade. Looking at who our rivals were bringing in at the time and the program's resources I expected us to get our own Saban/Meyer/Richt. We got who we got and the rest is history. Kirby was a hot name but I don't see SEC schools making those homerun hires right now.

I also think that thanks to Saban and Miles, there is an entire generation of LSU fans who don't even know who Archer, Hallman and Dinardo are. They can't get their heads around the idea that a program with such history and success in a fertile recruiting ground could get lost in the wilderness for a decade or more. They may be in for a rude awakening.

I think LSU may be giving Orgeron a legitimate chance at this job by firing this early while games are still relevant. LSU is only 1-1 in SEC play, and a win over Alabama would put them firmly into the SEC West race. After what Orgeron did at USC post-Kiffin, and what the ensuing staff has done, I think this may be a real possibility.

Here's a mindblower I just saw on Twitter.....

Les Miles won 8+ games in 11 straight seasons, the only other coaches in SEC history to do that: Bear Bryant, Philip Fulmer & Steve Spurrier

In firing Les Miles, LSU showed that they did not pay attention to what happened at Tennessee when it fired Coach Fulmer. Miles is a great coach with a fantastic record at LSU, even better than Nick Saban's record through nearly three times as many games. I expect that LSU is on the cusp of a frustrating period much like the one we experienced between Fulmer and, well, the win over Florida two days ago.

What will be most interesting to observe is whether or not the LSU AD is able to make a homerun hire. They say LSU is a premiere coaching job. Is it more desirable than Tennessee?

In this ESPN article (LSU Tigers fans will miss Les Miles more than they realize), I found the comments of LSU fans to be very similar to the comments Vols fans were making about Fulmer in the two years leading up to his firing.

How will this affect Tennessee? Not sure. Recruiting could improve. If we continue to play TA&M on a regular basis, it could help our strength-of-schedule since they will slide into second place behind Bama in the SEC West fairly dependably.

Finally, where might Les Miles wind up? Will another SEC school go after him?
