Les Miles wants to do away with permanant SEC opponents...

If the divisions were realigned as follows, I'd be okay with only counting division games:

Division A: Bama, MSU, UGA, UK, Mizzou, A&M, Auburn

Division B: UT, Vandy, LSU, USCe, Ole Miss, Arkansas, UF

All time win percentages are .588 and .587 respectively.

The West's avg winning percentage is .603, while the East's is .573. That isn't even close to being even.

Is that just conference games or overall? Out of 1000 games played that represents a 30 game lead for the West. I'm willing to bet a majority of those 30 wins are from the last 5-6 years.

I'd swap Tennessee and ga. That would keep the UT\bama and UGA/FL rivalry.

I don't know what the numbers are but vandy and ky are the worst two teams in the league on a regular basis.

Missouri has been terrible for most of the last 50 years.

South Carolina has only been at the level they are at on a somewhat consistent basis due to spurrier.

There's no question the west is stronger top to bottom

I would like to swap UT and Bama and take my chances in Division A. This all-time winning percentage does not take into account UF and LSU's rise in the last couple of decades. This alignment gives Bama no real consistent threat outside of UGA.

It also doesn't account for UT's recent slide, and no one would call MSU the worst program in the league, but they are historically, and by a decent margin.

But history can indicate who is likely to stay good or stay bad over time.

Am I the only one who believes Texas a&m is here to stay as a permanent threat?

As long as they have a competent coach they will be like Florida following the arrival of Spurrier. I.e. With the vast resources of Texas there's no reason they should ever experience a UT or Aub style multi-year dip. They're here to stay. They may even surplant LSU as Bama's primary speedbump to winning the west each year.

How can anyone say that one of cfb most storied rivalrys, TN-al, shouldn't matter?

Dang...I think I just agreed with bw.

Some will argue that it would count toward the national title race.

But the TSIO has determined more SEC championships than any other pairing. How can anyone say that it should be irrelevant in the SEC going forward?

Dont know.

While we're at it...lets return to TSIO. Never heard if the problem came from our side or yaws.

I think so too. Texas overplayed their hand and A&M will benefit from it. They do not have to be little brother anymore.

Originally it came from you guys wanting a bye before us and UF. But you guys dropped that and it still hasn't been fixed on a permanent basis.

I'm in your camp on this.

Actually I think that inviting aTm was one of the dumbest moves the SEC ever made, simply because of this.

The prevailing argument is that this opens up the rest of the SEC to Texas recruiting.

No it doesn't. 80% of kids go to a school within a half-days drive of where they live. That basically means that aTm coming in only benefits aTm.

Now the rest of the SEC will have to compete against top tier Texas talent, isolated largely within one team.

Think Florida, only better and more talented.

True but aTm has to also recruit against Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, Houston, LSU, etc. I'm just saying that it's not like aTm automatically has the entire state to themselves in recruiting. They HAVE competion. Also, Manziel is one of those once in a generation type of quarterbacks. How good would they be without him right now?

We agree on the broad strokes but disagree on the finer points. I think that aTm being in the SEC means that they can separate themselves with the elite talent in Texas. Florida has been using that against Florida State and Miami for years.

A kid, looking at going to Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor, TCU and play in a conference that hasn't won a BCS title since they were basically infants (and stay close to home), can now play in the SEC, where titles are cluttering up our stadiums, and still stay close to home.

That's why I don't put too much stock in recruiting rankings as he was a 3* recruit.
