I dont know. You seriously thought 4 years ago that a coach should come in and turn Tennessee in to a top 8 program nationally within 4 years? haha

This is amusing. Some people are never satisfied.

He is paid in the top 8. I would say the facilities are in the top 8.

How did you get that from my post?

no. and he has re-energized the program which is worth alot.

however... you look for signs he is a coach that can create a top 8 program.... up there with unc, duke, ku, uk, uconn, syracuse, ucla, texas.

while it may bring energy to the program, individual "big" wins during the reg season are not signs pearl is an elite level coach.

Can those of you that are dissatisfied with the job BP is doing post your expectations for this program so the rest of us can figure out what world you are living in?

Consistent discipline and execution on defense and offense in the half court, especially in Tournament games. Value every possession like its the last one of the game. Recruit high caliber players and try to limit the projects and cast-offs that can cause a lot of trouble. I think if these things are done as best as possible, then success will follow in post season play. I have very realistic expectations, and its more to do with consistent play, then wins and losses.

right, and neither does one run to the elite 8 which seems to be the measuring stick here for some reason. hence my george mason example.

It's a start. It is certainly better than the disappointing tourney efforts and the early exits that we have seen so far.

Yes, it's a start. You seem to be evaluating just on postseason success, which is obviously the most important factor, but probably where you are going to see success last when rebuilding a program in my opinion.

For example, winning the SEC regular season, being extremely competitive in non-conference play against some of the elite programs in the nation, etc could all be considered a "start", and a sign that the program is headed where we want it to be.

5 minutes after he loses in the Elite 8 there will be those on here who say he is a bad coach because he hasn't made it to the Final Four.

You would think it's ridiculous until you realize that 2 days after beating the number one team in the nation people are back to complaining about the e8.

who has said the elite 8 would not be good enough? I missed it but would really like to read it

And seconds after the win people were starting threads calling anyone who has any criticism of Pearl “Haters”; like you did in your first post.

I did not see anyone calling out the Pearl "'Lovers" after USC.

No one yet. But I have a feeling those of you that are still unsatisfied with Pearl will never be, no matter what he does.

I don't dislike Pearl at all. I want him to win. I've just eventually grown to the reluctant conclusion that he doesn't coach a flavor of basketball that's likely to lead to much success in March, is all. I'd love to be proven wrong.

(This is where you say, Well at least he's better than Buzz Peterson and Wade Houston. And I say, we weren't dumping money into the program then. We should expect more now. And you say, It's only been five years, you're being unreasonable. These basketball threads are even more predictable than the Fulmer threads the last few years.)

No it's been four, and if you cant admit that as being unreasonable I guess you are right, we will have to agree to disagree.
