i don't think we'd beat louisville, wvu, or definitely not rutgers. Michigan would've trounced us, we saw what air force did to us and what notre dame did to us, so don't give me ND. guess we'll get our answer from the ACC when we wind up in atlanta AGAIN for the peach/chick fil a extravaganza

6. Notre Dame
7. Rutgers
8. West Virginia
10. Louisville
11. Texas
12. Wisconsin
13. Boise State
14. Wake Forest
16. Oklahoma
17. California
18. Georgia Tech
19. Virginia Tech
20. Boston College
21. Maryland

If we had the schedules of these teams we would be ranked higher than 23.

Nice point.

99- undefeated, 2000- 1 loss, 2003 was a 2 loss effort (recall no team went undefeated that year) so yeah looks like bowden has had some national title contention years lately

Better than last year!!

we didn't play any of them this year, and my point is that we wouldnt beat those teams this year... that is all

So, we can't really be for sure. We lost very close games to 2 top 10 teams, beat the then #5 team like a wet sock on the road. since we don't play them this year, that is mere speculation.

And to boot, ND really proved their manhood manhandling all those poor cadets. Who do you think was tougher for them. Their only real oponent thus far made them slobber.

my apologies for not being able to read sarcasm... I think Cal has been proven as a fraud though. preseason polls aren't always accurate ya know

A mark in the WIN column.
....

.... because for some insane reason their coach went for two and then doesn't even run the option. he kicks the extra point and sends it to OT, we're done. He runs the option on the 2 point conversion i really don't see how we would've stopped it.

notre dame meanwhile, well they steamrolled the cadets

Partly due to Fisher Dingleberry's decision to go for 2 and the win rather than 1 and the tie.

And still a W. And if Russell had managed the clock better in Auburn game in fading moment, he'd had 1st ad goal from the 5 with 40 seconds instead of gameover. Still a L though.

Considering the tone of the board the past few days, I would say that "people" are most definitely not ecstatic...

I will say that I feel burned. After 2004 and with the returning defense, it was justifiable for me (though not completely reasonable considering RS remained) to assume UT would compete on the same level with that Auburn team that they faced in the SEC championship game as early as 05.

Now, when backed against the wall UT has no real answer for the upper echelon of the SEC, and I do not see that changing with the returning defensive and offensive line in 07.

Not only that, the further we go into the season, and the tougher the opponents have gotten, it appears as though CPF's influence over the handling of the offense is getting greater. I saw no way of justifying running the ball in the second half against Arky. All in all I would say the Vols are no closer to an SEC championship than they were in 04.

Same story as last year against us at the half. Seems to be a Miles/Russell clock management pattern.

Most anyone who plays the cadets steam rolls them. Heck AF was even up on Army, like 43-0 at the half. There's no proof in the pudding for a team like ND to play and roll over all 3. It's just weak. Let everyone else a jacked up schedule week in and week out. Some do. Alot don't.

not trying to cut fulmer some slack, but I don't think Fulmer getting more control of the O is the exact problem.. The problem is we are one dimensional and now these tougher teams plan for that. that is just as much cut's fault as it is fulmer's

The newspaper here in Atlanta has reported that the Chick-fil-a/Peach will invite Georgia if they beat Tech, which could very well happen. We have played there (well, we have fielded a team there) with such regularity that we are not an attractive option to them.

A couple of reports have us playing in the Outback bowl. If so, that would be our best bowl game in half a decade.
