agree Dobbs looked good ...but everyone should remember that he was playing during garbage time against safe defenses ...that left the underneath relatively open .

I will keep my mind open until I see him during money time

Once you burn the redshirt you almost certainly have to play him, don't you? Very impressed by his poise. Definitely opens up the playbook .

I put this in another forum, but if Ferg is better and healthy and Worley can't play, does he still play Dobbs? Are we playing substandard players to keep freaking redshirts? Play the best players. Play to win. Screw redshirts.

After Dobbs moved the ball like he did against Alabama, the best D we will see the rest of the year, it would be irresponsible to sit him and burn another red shirt.

He'll live. If Dobbs is the gamer he appeared to be, Fergy will wait his turn, find another place to play or keep working to push Dobbs.

Dobbs had the opportunity and ran with it. If the shoe was on the other foot, would you say the same?

Um...yes?

I understand this, I just mean that if not for an untimely injury, it would have been Ferguson playing, not Dobbs. If the situation was reversed, I'd say poor Dobbs.

It shouldn't take Lugenschnitzel to tell us this….It was obvious to everyone who watched the game….

There have been several QBs in the SEC who came on as freshman late in the season and become 4 year starters--the only drawback I can even think about is if they REALLY believe that Riley Ferguson is truly better--which might create problems down the road….

Either way--my vote is to Start Dobbs against Mizzou….:salute: GO VOLS---BRICK BY BRICK...

Do not forget that, had he not been hurt, Riley Ferguson would have gone in yesterday instead of Dobbs. It does seem to me that Dobbs has quite a fan club on here. Kind of odd really. I want to see what Ferguson can do as well as what Dobbs can do. Don't all of you feel the same?

Apparently not many.

...Dobbs played 2 qtrs. Let the young man develop before making him the next Tee or Peyton.
Coaches have said he and Fergie are ready, just didn't want to burn RS. Now that is not a consideration anymore, keep Dobbs in and let JW heal 100%. May need him to prevent burning the 2nd RS.
I know a week of practice could make a big difference, but how much of the playbook can he run? It seemed like they run a lot of the same plays over and over yesterday. (Just asking a question here.)
Pretty much like ALL year with JW? Not a bit of drop off there IMO.
I tend to agree that Dobbs is the future ... However, he (Worley) still struggles with passing (his receivers are part of this problem as well and will be Dobbs' as well.)...
Yes, Dobbs had passes right on the spot a few times that were dropped. I think the biggest problem I've seen with JW is; when he had wide open receivers he either didn't see them or he was slow in delivery, or over-under threw them.

FYI...

@TomLuginbill: The #Vols need to go with Josh Dobbs & never look back. Build the whole offense and the future around him. They got something in that kid.

Well, after the redshirt was burned...why not. I know Coach Jones didn't want to do that but now that it's happened let the kid go. Let the incoming kids see what's in store with their future QB and Worley is the backup.
GO VOLS!

Says who? Wes Rucker? It's all hearsay. Some have said that Dobbs passed Ferguson before he strained his muscle. Nobody on here knows for certain.

Both fan clubs are getting butthurt over one qb or the other. I don't care and wasn't coming into this with a favorite. However, Dobbs performed well and the ball is in his corner now. He has the opportunity, and if he runs with it, I don't recommend creating a controversy if he's the one that turns the corner for us.

Before everyone goes crazy..... Ask yourself why is Tommy Lugunbill a reporter and not a coach.

Where is his experience to make a statement like this. He played QB for GT under Bill Lewis for one year. So, he is now great judge of talent.

Dobbs played 2 qtrs. Let the young man develop before making him the next Tee or Peyton.

Well if only experienced people can make comments about players, lets go ahead and shut down sports media and every message board out there.

Need to build around whatever their system dictates. Trust the process...brick by brick

Dobbs is much better suited for our offense and he is blatantly a better passer... no reason not to start him moving forward. .. ol' loogiebill is spot on

Agree... I agree play the best guy, but I am a 'show me the #s kind of guy. I get frustrated when I see people on here pulling for Riley over Dobbs or Dobbs over Riley. Really? not our decision. I'm not in practice and neither are you. Not sure the basis of everyone basing their opinions. HS film on YouTube? Where? Think the best judge of talent would be the coaches who see them daily!!!!!!!!!

But if he is the better QB, doesn't Coach have a responsibility to the team and fans to play the best player? Redshirts are a luxury item, not a necessity. Play the best players.

You start the QB that gives you the best change to get to 6 wins before you worry about wasting a red shirt.....

The extra practice time of a bowl game is extremely important to this team plus you owe it the seniors to do everything possible to get them to a bowl game....

Maybe Lugunbill is a reporter and not a coach because he never wanted to be a coach in the first place? And I don't see Lugunbill beatifying him as the new saint of Knoxville, he's simply saying we should move forward with Dobbs for the most promising results. That's not exactly going out on some extremist branch.

Worleys thumb is going to take weeks to heal. Im no DR, but he shouldnt even be throwing. Its Dobbs all the way

The thing I saw that makes me want to see more of Dobbs was his willingness to actually keep the ball on the read option.

he was playing against all dl, lb's and db's that would start for UT and bama didn't sit back in safe defenses. He had pressure on several throws and they blitzed as well.
