Mack Brown out at Texas

People are underestimating the importance that the HC at UTX needs to be a very Very VERY political savvy guy. This list can't be just ur regular list.

The person needs to be able to handle the fact that he is going to be in the epicenter of TX politics. Not hrs away from it.

Briles imo would be good as he is a TX guy and think he has the ability to talk to all the people that r pulling him from all angles. If that's something that intrigues him. To be honest Briles was on the top of my list of who I wanted at UT until I did more research and realized he wouldn't leave TX.

The guy will need to be established and able to handle all that comes with the UTX HC position. The likes of Saban, Harbough, Briles etc could do it because they are not only hard nosed but also have established resumes. "Up and comers" like franklin will not make it to many yrs there.

Kubiack came to mind too, but health issues and him being an aggie kind of squashes that.

Patterson I think could pull it off, but his last couple of seasons have hurt him. But if they come calling he could pull a Peterson, and take it cause his star is falling.

Art Briles is pretty country. I doubt he'd fit the "political" mold as much as you think.

And what is TX politics full of??The guy is smart and a straight talker. West TX style. He built U of H and now Baylor. The guy has polished up well I'm sure while getting where he is at on the east side of the state.

Again..it may not intrigue him but saying he wouldn't be able to handle TX politics cause he is pretty "country" is laughable. It'll take a guy with his type of personality to be able to handle many things thrown his way.

The only thing that makes me think Briles wouldn't fit is I don't think he'd choose to go along with the politics of it all. Not that he couldn't, but I don't think he'd like it. That, and the University of Texas and the city of Austin are both pretty far left of center in politics, so they're not what comes to mind when one thinks of Texas.

I think that kissing the rings of Oil barrons and Austin's political brass would get on his nerves. He hasnt had to kiss anyones ass in Houston or Waco. The closest situation comparable to this was while he was at Tech, and there he was a "one of their own".

After the way Mack Brown acted after the ISU game I don't see how anyone could have much respect for him.

I totally agree and that's why I said if it intrigued him. I don't know him personally but from hearing his interviews he comes off as someone that could handle it if that's something he wouldn't mind handling as part of the job. Of course this is all opinion.

And Austin, though a very liberal city, is heavily run by...?...TX Oil Barrons and many others related to Oil. Which is huge down in Houston with all the refineries etc. So like I said imo if all of that political side of it intrigues the guy he would be able a good fit.

A big concern would be that he will end up pissing off the Southern Baptist (I'm one so please don't yell at me people). Ha!! But again they can't be to surprised, and if he went anywhere else they'd be more pissed.

At the end of the day...my whole pt is that the HC at UTX has to be a special type of HC. Not just anyone just because he can coach. Just like what my opinion is on what we at UT needed when Dooley came in.

Again all imho that's all...
