It means Saban and his agent are leveraging Alabama for a better deal.

Seriously Punt Battle

It was just reworked in March.

 Hook'em

And he knows that he can get more money out of this extension by saying, "The Texas job is open, and I might consider listening to their offer unless you rework this deal for more money/years/etc."

I think I believe this whole thing a little more than I did yesterday. Still think it only has about a 5% chance of happening.

I agree. I think this is more about Saban re negotiating with Bama than it is him actually leaving for Texas. Saban's not going anywhere!

I don't buy that.

It doesn't matter what job is available, Saban always has massive leverage over Bama. Those boosters haven't forgotten just how bad it was for UA after post-Stallings/pre-Saban. They would bend over backwards, run thru fire and eat their first born if Lord SaBear told them to.

Orangebloods is in a frenzy. They're hearing former Texas players are telling people that Saban will be the next coach.

I just don't see why he would stay. He could make more money there, play a weaker schedule, and travel less for recruiting. It's potentially one of the best jobs in college football. I think it would be dumb for him to stay at Bama, especially with the competition level getting tougher.

Entirely possible that he actually is going to Texas, but the whole thing reeks of somebody wanting to get a better extension more so than somebody wanting to bail.

I'm not buying the notion that Saban is leveraging this agaist Alabama for more $. I will buy that the hold up here is that Mack wants to force tu to fire him. I'd argue that unless he gets a position within the program as an "advisor" or something, he'll stick to his guns and force them to do so.

If they could figure out what position to give him, this would all be over and he'd step down with dignity. Instead, he's strongarming them in to paying him more when they are faced with canning him outright.

If Saban does not take the Texas job, I think they might make a hard push for Mike Tomlin or David Shaw.

Texas will have to get Mack completely out of the picture if they want Saban. His ego will not allow the former coach of 16 years to be snooping around the team in an advisor role imo.

The best thing for Texas is to just be done with it and fire him already. You know the recruits that he -- and the rest of the Texas staff -- is going after are going to ask him a million times about if he's getting fired, if he's secure, those type of things.
