So, Butch Davis is the best coach in your book because he put together 1 great team? Yet, Fulmer is mediocre? Fulmer not only was the architect behind the '98 team, he also coached the team to the National Title. Davis still has a bolo in the National Championships column, and only a career winning percentage of .718...

Might I add against a VERY weak Big East Schedule!!

1. Did Fulmer inherit a program on probation?
2. While I love the'98 team dearly, comparing that team to the 2001 Miami team is like comparing Jennifer Anniston to Angelina Jolie. Very good doesn't compare to truly great.

Given that I live about a 10 minute drive from the campus of the "U", I'll venture that I have considerably more insight into the Miami program than you do.
I'll address your contention with some quick bullet points:
1. Jimmy Johnson hande. Dennid Erickson a Ferrari. By the end of his tenure, he had turned it into a wrecked Camaro.
2. There isn't a Miami fan alive who wouldn't trade Coker for Butch right now. Everyone knows that Coker simply did the same thing as Erickson. He simply had to stay out of the way in '01 and '02. Left to his own devices, he has now run the program into the ditch.
3. If you don't realize there's a difference between what JJ handed Dennis the Drunk and what Butch inherited, you're suffering from a cognitive disconnect with reality.
Suffering from a disconnect or looking at the actual statistics. Butch is a great recruiter, I will give you that. However, Butch is a horrible coach. He cannot win games unless the talent his team fields far outclasses the opposing talent. During Miami's probation, they still had as much talent as their opponents. They went 5-6 one of those years, 8-4 another, etc. Nobody knows whether or not Butch would have been able to actually coach his guys to a National Championship. He had as much talent in 2000 as Coker did in 2001. However, the Canes choked against UW.

1. Vols suffer from a Crompton-Ainge quarterback quandry when they slip to 2-3.

There will be no quandry. Ainge will either perform, or he will be replaced for good.

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Pull Miami's roster from the '97 game at FSU. The two deep is almost entirely comprised of freshmen and sophomores. Further Miami was about 20 players short on the dress roster because of probation and dismissals of the abject gangbangers that Dennis had brought in his last couple of seasons. Also, what was Washington's record in '00? It's not like he lost to Vanderbilt. Read Cane Mutiny, or better yet, ask some of the guys off the '00-'02 teams to compare Butch to Ears. They'll readily tell you that it's the difference between Patron Silver and Pepe Lopez. The players all lobbied for Coker to be promoted when Butch went to Cleveland because they knew he was weak personality who wouldn't try to change anything. They knew they would win as long as the new coach stayed the hell out of the way. Left to the fruits of his own labor, Coker has led Miami to the brink of mediocrity.

I pulled the rosters, and exactly what I said is true. Sure, Miami's talent was down for Miami. That Miami team still had two players drafted in the first 3 rounds (UT had 1 in 2006.)* Also, they were beaten 47-0 by FSU that year. As bad as UT was in 2006, our worst defeat was a 20 point loss to ND (a game that we were still in heading into the 4th Quarter.)

You can do whatever you wish to continue to pull the wool over your eyes, however, the Butch Davis you adore is apparently a much different Butch Davis that has absolutely no National Championships nor World Championships to show for all his years of hard work...

Jason Allen did not even play in half of UTs games in 2006.

If you overlook the two Super Bowl rings he won with the Cowboys and the one he snagged with the Canes in '87. Keep propping TCHFCATUTK up. Given it's becoming obvious that the QB position in particular, and the offense in general, is going to be a disaster area again, you won't have many more chances to carry water for him.

Who recruited the UT players that were in the '06 draft? Great job by a coach who's been on the job for over a decade. Good to see he's realy raking in and developing the talent.

The '97 FSU team would beat the '05 ND team by a score of roughly 79-2.

Didn't Butch Davis leave a bad taste in some people's mouths with the way he left Miami for the Browns? I seem to remember a lot of people felt betrayed because he was telling everybody he was going to be at Miami forever right up until literally the day before he took the Cleveland job.

That is absolutely accurate. Clinton Portis and Bryant McKinnie, in particular, hold fairly serious grudges.

Quick question. How many looses would it take this year for CPF to resign. I beleive that he could go winless this year and he wouldnt get fired but I beleive that if he looses 4 or more games this year he will resign.

I just dont think he would want to come back if we have another lackluster season.

I can't see TCHFCATUTK walking away from the money left on his contract. However, anything more than four losses might make the situation unbearable for him.

1. Tennessee opens the season by exposing Cal as the most overrated team in the country.
2. Alabama crashes back to earth and Tide fans realize that Shula is a more eloquent version of Mike Dubose.
3. Penn State reverts to mediocrity and JoePa finally draws the curtain on his fabulous career.
4. Florida State again fails to play up to their standards. Reverend Bobby steps aside.
5. Shocker of the Year: Mississippi State over West Virginia on October 7 in Starkville.

Washington went 11-1 in 2000 and won the rose bowl. They by the way lost to one loss oregon.i think you knew that but only reniforcing your point.

i also remember watching miami in 2001, and was thinking, 'is the coach doing anything or are the players just this d**n good?'

my point was confirmed when as some of the top draft picks graduated, cokers team grew consistently worse over the last few years.

Is that the same '97 FSU team that only beat Duke 51-27? Clemson 35-28? Lost to Florida?

I love how if UT wins, Cal is the most overrated team in the country. God forbid, UT is actually underrated...

This truly honestly was not a bash on UT, I guarantee it. Sometimes we need to look at he message, not the sender.

If Cal wins in Knoxville, it will simply fall to Arizona, Arizona State, and Oregon to show how completely unjustified the Golden Bears' ranking.

1)UT goes 11-1...bold, yes I know...schedule is on our favor to do it, all our tough games with the exception of UGA is at home
2)Florida realizes they're overrated and loses 3 games
3)Arian fosters runs for 1500 yards
4)Troy Smith wins Heisman
5)Chris Leak spends more time picking himself up off the ground in Neyland Stadium than he does throwing the ball

I got 5
1. UT beats UK
2. UF beats UK
3. UGA beats UK
4. USC beats UK
5. atleast 3 other teams beat UK
