Kremlin propaganda points? I'm trying to convince you guys that this is all being set up to get us into WWIII. They have created an enemy and the media and the US govt is pushing the narrative. The US is itching to get this kicked off.

I'm not pro-Kremlin as much as I am anti-conflict. The US and media tried their best to convince us last year that we needed to go to war with Syria. They are doing the same now in Ukraine. And its all done (in both instances) to set up either a new cold war or a real hot war with Russia.

No one here is itching to go to war with Russia. What most here support is supporting the legitimate Ukrainian government in crushing terrorists funded, supplied, and trained by Moscow. It's not the Ukrainians who started the war and that has blood on their hands, but Putin's buddies.

I've posted it before in the Ukraine thread, but I'll post it here again. According to this man, who was once Putin's biggest economic adviser and is now a dissident, the events we are witnessing (not necessarily the downing of the jetliner) have been planned for by the Kremlin for a decade or so. Part of Putin's plan to restore Russia as a superpower. According to this man, Illarionov, the Kremlin calls this strategy the "Fourth World War." He says it started with Georgia and is continuing in Ukraine. Take it for what it's worth.

War is all about power and money correct? So, who in the hell wants WWIII, who stands to profit from total annihilation?

What concerns me is that US government is sending NTSB and FBI personnel to help with the investigation. What happens if they go to the crash site and are hauled away by the local pro-Russian insurgents?

I would hope they aren't that stupid.

(As ridiculous as that might sound)

Completely believable.

Might not be completely accurate but Putin is a man with a vision, and that vision is not about keeping things as they are.

Good question? I don't think these guys would have any interest in any of the Gitmo guys.

The US (or those in control of the US) stand to gain because they will have a convenient excuse for when the dollar collapses. They can blame Russia, or ISIS, or Syria or whatever conflict for creating the the destruction of the economy. Then, maybe sprinkle in one of these "bigger than 9/11" terror attacks here at home to bring in martial law here at home to protect the homeland.

I think at some point, the border will be secured. Right now, they are just letting everyone enter as they please. But once the chaos begins, the borders will be secured to keep everyone in. They have essentially already put currency controls in place where they can track your every financial move, even overseas (FATCA).

This is sad and shocking news, especially for the motherland. My cousin flew over the same region two days ago coming home from Australia and a family friend took the exact same Malaysian Air flight 4 days ago. Lots of people going on vacation, a bunch of top researchers going to a global AIDS conference... just disgusting.

That said I hope cooler heads prevail. IMO this had to be an accident, and an accident is no reason to get drawn into war.

I'll just say this. On New Year's 1999, Russia ushered in a new era with Yeltsin handing power over to Putin, a very, very little known FSB man at the time. His approval numbers were all-time low. I'm talking incomprehensibly low: by some estimates only 2%.

In September of 1999, there were apartment building bombs all across Moscow and southern Russia. Hundreds died.

In October, Russia launched an invasion of Chechnya, siting Chechen terrorists as responsible. Putin's approval numbers skyrocketed to 60%.

Not long after, evidence emerged that FSB agents had been planting explosives in apartments in southern Russia. They were discovered and called out by locals. The official FSB story is that they were running a test to see how locals would respond.

The Russian presidential election (aka, whether or not Putin would rule for a few months or a few years) was held in March 2000.

He won easily.

Don't put anything past this bastard of a human being.

He is a bastard. But unfortunately, a vastly more intelligent bastard than the one we currently have.

Well, according to some, Obama is or will be responsible for the deaths of thousands, if not millions with Obamacare. So perhaps not.

And not forgetting that even while Medvedev was in office after Putin's two terms were up, Putin was still there.

An all out war with Russia is WWIII, it will go nuclear, who profits from that?

Your wrong, this is Putin, an ultranationalist with grand visions of restoring Soviet (Russian) dominance within the hemisphere. He understands he is dealing with a weak POTUS and taking advantage of it.

I've heard conflicting stories, but I'm under impression that Putin can legally remain president until 2022. To be honest, I think he remains the Russian leader (in some shape or the other) until his death.

His grandfather was Stalin's cook. Let that sink in.

Russian Empire, not Soviet. Although they resemble one another very closely, except for philosophy. And perhaps Obama has enabled him; who knows. Perhaps if we hadn't committed ourselves to Cheney adventurism in Iraq, we'd be a little more powerful now though.

Putin was the Prime Minister (IIRC) during Medvedev's time as President. So you can't tell me he wasn't the power behind the throne.

Same Stalin that had people taste test his food to make sure it wasn't poisoned? :p
