Malzahn (not) to be named Vandy coach

I think he could have been a good fit for Malzahn's offense, he might be happy at UT but I would have at least wanted to be a starter at an SEC school.

Even to be HC at lowly Vandy, you gotta say that's pretty good for a guy who was running the spread offense in a Springdale, Arkansas high school not too long ago. Maybe he wants out of Auburn before sanctions hit. Maybe he just wants to be a HC, prove he can build a program, etc. IMO, it's a great opportunity for both sides. It's a PR coup for Vandy, hiring a "hot" coordinator for HC. That's much better than hiring some retread that you can argue with relative certainty will never succeed. For Malzahn, if he can make Vandy competetive/relative, he could do so much more somewhere else. Would open a lot more doors for him down the road.

You just described the DD expirement. Go to a crap school and see if you can get it to pay off. Malzahn gets his shot in the SEC and for more money than DD. Win win for him and Vandy. I posted in 2 unrelated threads that I felt like Vandy would end up with the hire of the year and a better coaching choice (for them) than FL.

If Trooper goes with him could Jaylon Denson WR 6-3 190 or
Greg Robinson OL 6-4 296 decommit?

since GM is taking the vandy job, i was wondering if he'll actually be able to make something out of them? maybe in 2-4 yrs where will they be? this is probably the best HC hire they've had that i can remember. Thoughts?

He may be able to bring back the offenses of Watson Brown in the Late 80's-early 90's. :birgits_giggle:

i just read that this isn't quite a done deal yet. So take it for what it's worth. I read about it on cbssports. So if this doesn't end up happening i apologize in advance.

great hire imo. he will(would) have the team much improved after 2 years, but vandy will never be able to recruit talent like the rest of the conference
