Did he not have a stable contract?
Not if the market says he deserves more. And it appears that Memphis was prepared to up the ante.
We still don't know the #'s of Bruce's new deal. I doubt it is in the 3m range and will be surprised if it is.
I believe it will be in the 2.3 - 2.5 range, which keeps him at the same level he has been in the SEC. I think that is fair. If he wants to go above that level he will produce more.
Why would a coach call UT asking to be the HC when there is already one under contract?
I guess there are a lot of coaches who have called UNC to submit resumes in case Roy Williams dies in a plane crash.
there was a short list thread...might want to check there.:dunno:I never said any coach was calling UT asking to be the HC.
My point was, if CBP leaves for another program, who is a legitimate prospect to fill the HC position?
No one has named a prospect on this thread! Not one!

I'm still waiting to hear who offered BP?
Be careful. He's a Pearlophile. If you ignore the fact he's either too lazy or too stupid to read a thread that answers the question he's now asked 3,896 times, he will threaten to join Volquest.

Sean Miller is happy and content at X. That said, he's not finishing his career in Cincinnati.I've read the thread about the short list.
Mark Few
Travis Ford
Jay Wright
Sean Miller
etc., etc.
Which one of these is credible, that's all I ask.
Few is not leaving Gonzaga, Jay Wright is not leaving Villanova, Sean Miller is not leaving Xavier, except for Pitt, and not interested in Travis Ford.
I guess we will wait and see where Memphis eventually finds their coach. That will probably be a good barometer.
If I'm shelling out $3 mil annually, I'm getting someone better than Pearl.

The market didn't. Does Memphis make up the entire CBB market?
This is a good point on the surface. However, when you consider that UT is not necessarily a desirable place for coaches to go, it may take $4 mil to get a coach that is the same calliber as Bruce Pearl. This may be an irrelevant comparison, but ask Urban Meyer how much it would take for him to go to Vanderbilt. It would take way way way more money for him to go to Vandy than it would for him to stay at Florida.
Because it justifies paying Final Four money for a Sweet 16 coach. That's all they're looking for.

My point made since to me, but since I am the author of it, I can't see where you might have a disagreement with it. Do you have any criticism other than "Not really?"
You're assuming that all teams start from the same level playing field. This is not so. It is going to take UT a lot more money to make it to the Final 4 than it will to take UNC. UNC is much more desirable. I would coach for them at half the price that I would coach at UT.
