Manning Debate

You bet. All I need is web access and you make me laugh well into the day. Imagine, a guy likes those who cause considerable trouble off the field and makes excuses for them while at the same time in order to defend the trouble makers he makes fun of those who don't. I'm laughing as I type.
Imagine, a guy whose concept of the ideal Tennessee player isn't limited to a privileged, suburban raised media whore who can't win big games. That's a more accurate assessment of my position.

Do people really have a choice about where they were raised? Most "privileged" kids that I know never really get anywhere in life, even though they have more opportunity. Why base an assessment on a variable that the subject doesn't choose?

It's not Peyton's fault his dad played in the NFL, therefore he cannot be penalized for that. I don't see how he's a media whore, either. He's won his fair share of big games and made plenty of come from behind victories, as well.

Hatvol96=Brandon Stewart? :dunno:
Actually, Reg Stewart was my all time least favorite UT parent. I disliked him even more than Juicy Locke.

There's more than a little bit of jealousy showing through in that post, Hat.

How on earth could I have known that? I suspect Hat is an sports agent. He spends too much time in Cali and at South Beach.

Where? I would have long since done myself in if I lived in the suburbs and have been wildly successful on my own accord. I've got no reason to be jealous of anyone. I'm extremely fortunate.

No, but I do occasionally run into Drew Rosenhaus at Mansion or the Clevelander on South Beach. He's every bit as over the top in person as he is on television.

What does that mean? You would have killed yourself had you been successful on your own steam? Or if you lived in the suburbs? Elaborate please.

The suburbs are anathema to me. Every time I fly cross country I look down at the cookie cutter suburbs and thank God I don't live there.

Stating that Manning hasn't won a Superbowl is one thing. Knocking the kid because he lead a priviledged life (which as someone has already pointed out is beyond his control) is quite another. The fact of the matter is that Peyton is a great quarterback, but more important than that he's just a really good kid. I've never heard one disparaging story about him, and I've heard tons of great things about him (both in the news and from people that have met him in person). Whether you think he's a great quarterback or not, I really don't know how anyone could personally attack the guy. Archie and his wife should feel really proud of the job that they did raising their kids.

I don't see where I "knocked" him. I simply said I'm not among the UT fans that hold him up as some sort of ideal.

Bret Favre won a Super Bowl with a team far less talented than Indy had last year.

NOw this thread has gone from the ridiculous to the sublime. Comparing such hyperbole makes me wonder if you guys aren't just arguing for the sake of being able to read your own wisdom.

Give us a break!!!!!

"I don't see where I knocked him?" Are you serious? You don't think calling a kid "a privileged, suburban raised media whore who can't win big games" is knocking them? NOBODY on the board has "held Peyton up as some sort of ideal." The guy's human. Like every other human, including YOU Hat, Peyton is flawed. He's not ideal. However, he's still a great quarterback, and a great kid. If Peyton never wins a Super Bowl, he will still have been a great quarterback and a good person. These days there aren't too many guys like that in the NFL.

What part of that statement isn't accurate? Have we forgotten the "Cut that meat" commercials we were deluged with during the last NFL season?

So I take it that any athlete that does a TV commercial is a media whore?

Personally, I really liked those commercials. They showed that Peyton doesn't take himself so seriously that he's afraid to make a fool of himself. He's supposed to be a major practical joker.

My ideal Tennessee player is one that comes out and gives his all on the field and acts respectful to his team and his fans. Regardless of his upbringing. One that shines a good light on my school while wearing Big Orange and after his carreer in K Town is over. That hater of those who may have been born into a good family and acts with class, is my idea of an ideal Tennessee player.

His performances against Florida and the Patriots prove he has no problem making a fool of himself.

Hat, I have always felt that you've exhibited a high level of class on the board. I no longer feel that way. You're showing a severe lack of class in this discussion. I'm done with this conversation.

Doing a commercial does not make one a media whore! It makes one a commodity that the masses will purchase. Surely hate you know that!
