Manziel Being Investigated

The NCAA is about to get its doors blown off. That collector has signed stuff from Clowney, Bridgewater, and a few others.

Change is coming.

Has anyone come out and claimed knowledge of Clowney or Bridgewater receiving payment? Common sense would say that if Manziel got paid, they did, too. But so far, only Manziel has even testimonial evidence of having committed a violation.

Provide me a link to that "testimony". I'd like to see the video of it, or even the audio of it. Not just written words from someone like Joe Shad.

I wasn't referring to the video story from yesterday. I was referring to the guys who claimed knowledge of the deal in the OTL report from Sunday. Whether they actually know anything or not, their testimony is more than anyone has on Clowney, Bridgewater, or anyone else.

I keep hearing this commentary about not having "proof" because there probably isn't a video of the guy handing JM a bag full of money.

Testimony from people who are in a position to know how it worked is enough. You don't have to have photos. This is so especially when someone signs 300 things in one sitting. Five things, maybe ten? Ok.

Not 300. That's shenanigans.

This. And I've said it time and again: the NCAA's standard of proof is much lower than any court of law.

It's going to come down to whether the NCAA wants to deal with this issue, especially as it involves the highest profile guy in the sport. The NCAA is under a ton of scrutiny for a ton of issues, and I simply don't see them picking this battle.

That said, A&M fans should not kid themselves. Johnny got paid. He's not going to miss a snap over it, but he got paid.

How can they not, given all the publicity it's getting?

They chose not to deal with Cam Newton.

UNC has, so far, gotten off very light for an obscene academic fraud scandal.

Miami has yet to be touched, and they made SMU look like choir boys.

And Bruce Pearl got a three year show cause penalty and lost his job over a lie about a cookout.

Consistency.

This is an easy story for even the casual fan to understand.

South Carolina just came out and vehemently denied that Clowney ever took money for his autograph.

When is A&M going to do the same for Johnny? Aggie?

Eh, they did give Jim tressle a show clause and banned Ohio state from bowl games. The NCAA could do anything at this point and it wouldn't be a surprise.

Well to also be fair, they botched the Miami investigation pretty badly, overstepping some pretty big boundaries if I understood correctly.

With that (and some other stuff) happening so recently (and all the bad pub/press and criticism that came with it...especially with regards to the NCAA president), I'm not sure but that might have...I'm not fully sure how to properly word this last part... put them in a position of lessened standing/power (especially comparative to say following Penn St), where they can't act (I don't know) as well(?)/in a similar manner/can't be forceful (don't think that came out well enough)

(edit from later post:
I think maybe that I was trying to say - depending on the issue - the NCAA might have "less teeth," per se, at this moment in time because of how badly they botched the Miami investigation.)

It's kind of difficult for A&M to make a statement because they are under investigation and hired lawyers. It's easy for SC to say this when they're not really being looked at.

why I said I wasn't sure the best way to word my thoughts in that part

Had a caller on here at arkansas does home remodeling. Did some work for a agggie alum.

When asked about manziel leaving next year the booster stated he's not going anywhere. We have a deal on place. He stays through his senior year. A package deal with him and some other players worth 11 million bucks.

Could explain him not caring if he gets caught or what he does.

It's been a huge mess lately for the NCAA. It seems like there's always a player being investigated for something.

Then god was wrong. It still counts.

Not really. If everything else played out the same but Bama won over A&M, Bama still would have had to beat AU, UGA, and Notre Dame. Once Oregon and KSU lost, the result of Bama-A&M became meaningless.

Understood. But you can bet that A&M will keep that victory towards the front of the record books for a long time. It will go down in history as the game that gave Johnny the Heisman.

That it was. And good for him. But Bama didn't get a smaller crystal ball because of that loss.
