Ok guys currently 29 states and DC have protections for smokers where you cannot hire someone simply due to them being a smoker.
.
This cigarette thing is not uniform across the board.

I wager that nutless Bible thumper would see all of these outlawed in his perfect world.

Meh , life is all about choices . Eventually we learn that everything is better in moderation . None of it should be illegal.

Maybe not but I also don't want to pay the rates a carrier that doesn't require testing would charge. I'm not going to subsidize someones drug use.

Not necessarily more.

Could be.

But not always the case.

I will be 100% against any move to legalize pot or other drugs if employer discretion is taken away.

People drug test for worker comp and they get a discount for it. It's not required.

I have never heard of anyone testing for cigarettes and it sounds illegal and just asking for a lawsuit.
Nope several healthcare systems do and can

Do you hire beer drinkers?

I see your point and I am guessing you are in manufacturing or warehouse work which is already dicey but I am sure you hire drinkers.

In HS and college my buddies and I smoked weed A LOT while drinking beers or whiskey. Most potheads keep it green and only green for the most part. The doctors and medical professionals that throw patients opioids like candy are far more dangerous to society than bud smokers and the fourth meal they crave at 3am. The opioid epidemic in this country is a serious problem.
90% of 3rd level drug addicts who use pills, heroin and meth also still use marijuana, which was their first drug of choice

Your class code specific but not all carriers would.

You won’t be able to get your CDLs anything above a CDL like special permits you can forget also if you pop positive . It’s not going to matter what Congress passes .

Yeah I hire drinkers but will fire someone in a heartbeat for showing up drunk. Over half of my employees must be tested per the DOT so I will continue testing everyone as long as the DOT still requires it.

No one is put in prison JUST for simple marijuana possession
Maybe but they absolutely had to pay a fine for simple possession. Revenue collection never sleeps

No one should be in jail for possession of weed of any qty. Period

Do you think making it legal will allow people to grow it themselves? They will either buy it from the industry at high prices or will buy it cheaper from the gangs and criminals they do now or grow it themselves and STILL risk going to jail.

I thought we were talking average businesses not long hauling.

Yes long hauling does require drug testing by many carriers.

Not cool you guys throwing curveballs lol.

I understand what you are saying completely. The point I am trying to make is incarceration over possession of pot is a waste of time and space inside of prisons. I am not a weed user any longer but having gone down that road, it is much safer than many legal drugs that people partake of every day. If someone is crazy enough to shoot up or smoke crystal meth, then they have chosen to be a dumbazz.

Yeah that happens all the time with legal alcohol and cigarettes. There is still personal use growing just like home brewing

Look no further than Canada. I think people are allowed to grow two plants for personal use. That said it’s no thriving drug addict utopia that’s crime free.

First of all I'm totally for decriminalization. It shouldn't be illegal to grow your own either.

Second, if you have a medical prescription does that mean your use would be protected by HIPPA laws?

I've had guys that worked for me that I knew were pill abusers show up for work barely able to stand. I've had them drug tested and they passed. If they have a prescription then their positive test is removed from the results due to HIPPA.
