Show me two equal talents.
But directly to your point. The younger player, if truly equal, can use the experience of that PT to help you in the future. If you have a Sr and a SO that are equal then you let the So get the experience so he's even better in the future. You lose nothing now and gain alot later.
The flip side if this is you go with the more experienced of the two if they're of equal talent. Experience is an important intangible.
If head coaches used the logic of play the younger guy to get him experience over the older guy, Trent Richardson would have started over Mark Ingram as a sophomore.
