I see your point but he hasn't accomplished anything to deserve either. Who cares if he beat some good teams, he lost to losers as well. Shows inconsistency. He's only been here for 2 years, hasn't went to the NCAA & has gotten bounced in early rounds of NIT twice. I mean if he doesn't go to NCAA again next year & he has an extension then it was a waist. If he finally goes next year then probably I would because I see us moving forward. UT has been burned way too many times on these extensions thus far.
Put up or shut up is for Cuonzo year 3, no more excuses
Provide some information as to what was a waste? You aren't increasing his buyout, so it's not wasting money? Just because you extend the contract doesn't mean he has to coach trough it, so it's not a waste of years? So what exactly are you wasting by extending the contract 2 years, and keeping the buyout the same?
I don't care what the logic is, Cuonzo gets bounced at home against Mercer & he deserves an extension and who cares about the good teams he beat when he got beat by sorry teams as well. Like ESPN said about UT, "it's not who you beat but who you got beat by"
UT has been screwed way to many times by these buyout's & extensions. It's time for these coaches to EARN it.
I wouldn't be so sure about that. There's a reason HT Hackney created a position for him in case Cuonzo did not work out. He is like a buzzard waiting for Zo to keel over.People better get used to it, Pearl will never roam the sidelines at UT again.

I think Zo had one hand tied behind his back without Maymon and he had the most incompetent "sharpshooter" in SEC history. Still, he does not deserve a raise or extension until he proves he'a winner. With our facilities, we can get somebody mediocre anytime, anyday.
Ding ding ding.
Someone who is opposed to him getting an extension tell me why logically and with good reason you'd object if Dave Hart says...
Ok Cuonzo, we realize it's a recruiting disadvantage to not have atleast a 4 year contract, but we also haven't reached the NCAA tournament under you. We will extend your contract and give you a small raise to put you on par with other SEC coaches who have a similar resume. However, your buyout will remain the same as it currently is so in a case where you underperform in the near future we can part ways without being financially handicapped.
If Martin turns this down, hey you offered an extension, but put the ball in his court. If he accepts that what is the negative, someone please tell me how that hurts us?
What Barbee makes is irrelevant. UT should not overpay an average coach just because another SEC team does. When we make the big dance then he can ask.
I think he will be fine but he's not there yet, prove it first.
"There's been more than a little chatter this week about Cuonzo Martin and his contract, particularly as it relates his seeking an extension and a raise. We'd like to point out that nowhere has the Vols' head coach been cited as a source, and certainly not quoted, as being unhappy with his contract. In fact, from what we understand, from sources we'd describe as very close to the situation, Martin isn't unhappy with his deal and hasn't approached Dave Hart for a raise.
Our understanding is that like every head coach in America, Martin would like to be extended a year for recruiting purposes, but when it comes to the nuts and bolts of his deal, he hasn't expressed any displeasure or desire to rework things to the administration in the athletic department at the University of Tennessee."

Who started this Rumor?
Oops. Back to message boards 101 for everyone.People got Hell bent because there was an article in the KNS that simply said that because it is the end of the season, Martin, his agent, and the athletic department may look at a contract extension and/or raise. No quotes. Only that it was possible because the season was over.

CCM was making $300,000 2 years ago, so at 1.3 I'm sure he's happy currently with the salary. His popularity is declining though. I think Hart's best move is to give CCM an extension for recruiting purposes. Do not increase his pay. Renegotiate his contract for one year to increase his bonus pay.
Win SEC = more money
Win SEC tourney = more money
Make NCAA tourney= MORE MONEY and raise and extension next year
That's all everyone wants is to be in the tourney. I think CCM will be happy with that. That would put him in position to making more than 10th / 11th in the league. I think CCM haters and supporters can also accept that. Everyone is happy and can focus on next season.
