Maui fire. What is going on?

It's not crazy to say that climate change contributed to the conditions that made the fire so severe. However that has little to do with the local government's preparedness (or lack thereof) and response which they seem to have absolutely fumbled. Climate change is not a get out of jail free card to cover for their incompetence.

The wind was extra angry that day and fire was hotter than normal.

Idk, maybe they had one meter that could track two lines separately. I guess its possible, I just haven't heard of it. the other way to look at it is 10k is a lot more than the underground for a single family house should be. If you are in the desert it could be a hook up fee costs more. I know most municipalities require a pretty hefty connection fee, completely separate from usage, so maybe they just added that cost to your town.

It's definitely the desert.

Stop being reasonable.

Cars are welded to the ground?

The heat generated should be able to melt the sheet metal used in car unibody.
Yep, that’s the description. Tow trucks drivers are saying this.

Maybe the pavement is so hot, the car imbeds into the pavement. Idk

It really is crazy to say it because nobody can prove that it’s true. When the blame for hot weather, cold weather, dry weather, wet weather, etc is placed at the feet of climate change, then people get to have their cake and eat it too. It just becomes a boogeyman. And blaming the boogeyman is crazy.

It's crazy to remove the blame from the government and cry "climate change". It's certainly not crazy to say that we have had a negative effect on the environment and it's leading to more severe natural disasters. You may be a man made climate change denier but there is evidence showing our effect on the climate that the vast majority of the climate science community agrees with.

With that being said, I'm not sure you interpreted my post correctly. I think you may have just read the first line. I'm saying unequivocally that you can't just blame climate change for how this played out. And I'm not surprised that some folks are, including the local gov who wants to sweep their incompetence under the rug. They deserve the blame fully for how it was handled prior to the fires (not being prepared/having the infrastructure in place to mitigate this), during the fires (not sounding alarms, questionable road blocks), and after (trying to disctract from their failures).

I would think metal would melt onto the asphalt/concrete which is porous and the liquid metal would flow into the small crevasses and grooves of the roadway.

I don't believe there is consensus on the bolded claim. Perhaps it's true.

I would like to explore this notion further in the climate change thread if you feel like it.

when is the last time pols told the truth? not our fault for skepticism. and forget the false scientific consensus that they tout.

it certainly seems pointless as we contribute 14%. China getting a pass for being an emerging economy is ridiculous just for being designated such.

“China was the biggest emitter of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions in 2021, accounting for nearly 31 percent of the global emissions. The world's top five largest polluters were responsible for roughly 60 percent of global CO₂ emissions in 2021”

Have you ever seen Greta over in China crying & yelling B4 their table saying they're evil?
It's come out that she's just a paid actor to be in front of this hoax putting on a false face.

EXCLUSIVE: FEMA Officials are Staying at $1,000-A-Night Luxury Hotels in Maui amid recovery efforts in Lahaina

Bungling U.S. government bureaucrats dispatched to the Maui disaster zone are shacked up in $1,000-a-night luxury hotels on the Hawaiian island, DailyMail.com can reveal.

Officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have been slammed by locals over their slow response to the devastating wildfires that have claimed at least 114 lives and left thousands of people homeless after their houses were scorched to the ground.

The beachside resorts are popular among the rich and famous and located about a 45-minute drive away from the fire-ravaged town of Lahaina.

Hey, at least they have good taste! The Fairmont (Kea Lani) is where my wife and stayed when we got married, with a panoramic view from volcano to ocean. The Grand Wailea and 4S are also remarkable properties. Our meal at the Wailea was one of the best of my life.

So grant independence? That's fair in theory. I don't think it will happen any time soon though. Those military bases are very useful.
Yeaah, that was pretty much the point of the purchase of Hawaii.. it is very advantageous to us.. it does sound nice to just give it back 😂, but highly unlikely to happen

Droughts and severe storms occur naturally. Increase in temperatures can cause more severe droughts and storms. I don't think that is a revelation.
You're a good poster. Very objective.

You deviated between the two posts. From, "it's leading to more severe natural disasters", to, "can cause". I don't have an issue with can cause. The data will sort out what might happen.
I do want to discuss further the "leading to" in your other post.

There are definitely studies that link anthropological climate change with more severe weather conditions. See other thread. That being said, I would agree that the link may not have 100% scientific consensus yet, though most recent studies all seem to be pointing to that conclusion.

And if I want to be pedantic I believe my claim about scientific consensus was regarding anthropological climate change (ie humanity contributing to the warming of the planet). I said that it was not a "crazy" statement to say that there is a link between that and more severe weather events. ;)

It's a good thing for us all you eschew pedantry.
