'24 MD CB Ify Obidegwu (Oregon commit)

Need to take 6 DBs this cycle. Losing Burrell, Hadden, Turnage, D Slaughter, D Williams, Jeudy Lally, McDonald, McCollough, and Walker. Also wouldn’t be surprised if Rucker and/or Charles transferred. Kaleb Beasley, Ify Obidegwu, Marcus Goree, and Kumaro Brown at CB & Boo Carter, Ricardo Jones, and Edrees Farooq at safety. Brown has to pass his classes but that would be a very solid DB class.
Don't forget Travaris Banks too. KJ Bolden is also a possible. Maybe not a very high one right now, but UGA already has 3 safeties committed. I personally think Boo ends up on offense if we’re able to land Ify, Farooq, Jones, and Scott/Brown. He’s too dynamic with the ball in his hands and fits the offensive scheme too well for him to not be on offense if we already have a solid 2 deep across the board in the secondary. He would essentially be like plugging DeAnthony Thomas or Tavon Austin into this offense

I really like Banks. Hopefully his visit this weekend pushes him closer to us but I worry about getting him out of Alabama. Auburn has renewed hope with Freeze and the kid lives in Tuscaloosa, but he has visited a lot so there’s hope. I don’t think there’s any shot with Bolden. Boo is kind of an enigma to me. He reminds me of a skinnier version of Alvin Kamara. I see the effortless movements, vision, and balance in both, but he’s not built to be a RB. I imagine he would deal with a lot of shoulder injuries like Jabari Small. I think he’d be a better WR than safety but I’m not sure he has the pure speed or height. Maybe he’s faster than he looks and it’s just too effortless to notice. Also, I don’t think he’s physical enough to be a SS but does he have the range to be a FS? Boo is clearly a great football player, I just don’t know how he plays anything other than WR. I’d take him and figure it out later though cause he’s a dude.

I think they could use Boo in a variety of ways. Especially once we get more talent on the roster and aren’t having to rely so much on tempo to score and can make a sub or two on drives. He could get 8-9 carries a game and either be used between the tackles or as a pitch man on options. We could give him the ball on jet sweeps and push passes or on crossing routes in different air raid concepts and of course he would be a deep ball threat. We aren’t currently doing a lot of those things though. However I think, or at least I hope, we will see this offense evolve more once Nico takes over and so much of our passing offense isn’t based on just reading the safeties and the slot corner on one side of the field. It has worked great so far, but being able to take deep shots outside of switch routes on the perimeter gives you a lot more ways to attack the defense vertically

Must get?
If you’ve watched our secondary the past 2 years and watched him play you would already know the answer to that question. He’s a 6’1 lockdown corner that’s a top 100 player nationally with offers from Bama, Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Oklahoma, and ND. If those guys plus Dan Lanning and Luke Fickell want him I’d say he’s the real deal. I seriously doubt we will be able to land another guy that’s as good or better than him. So yes he’s a must get for this class even with Kaleb Beasley already committed. The more studs we have at corner the more likely Willie Martinez is to accidentally develop one into an elite player

I don't know how you type these two sentences back to back.

You seriously doubt we can land another player as good as him even though we currently have another player as good as him already committed?

Uh.... okay.

Mcdonald and Slaughter both have COVID year if they choose to return. Not sure who else does.

Hoping Slaughter does. There's a lot of hype around him at corner but I'm not sold. I get he's flashed and he played a hell of a game vs kensucky, but he was also succeptible to the out and up. UGA burned him on that for a touchdown and I think another team did (Clemson, maybe) but the pass was overthrown. So I think he'd do well to get more experience at the position this year, and stick around for his covid year and get himself some draft consideration.

I don't have any insight on McDonald outside of thinking he might be lacking in ideal athleticism and I'd love to see some new blood at the star.

Still need solid players on special teams. And McDonald is at worst a good backup. I’d like to see Walker as a true safety.

I guess I just didn’t realize we had so many elite position coaches on our board.

Sure everyone has an opinion but we have some who are 100% convinced they know better than real coaches..

But, at least we’re talking football again..

I don’t think Beasley is as good as Ify. He has better ball skils, but from what is shown in their highlights Ify seems to be a lot better in man coverage or at least plays more of it. Beasley is solid in man, but zone is where he really seems to thrive. I know highlights can sometimes be misleading, but his are phenomenal. We’re not currently in play for another corner his caliber that we have a realistic chance at landing. 6’1 corners that stick to WRs in man coverage aren’t exactly growing on trees. There’s a handful that come out each recruiting cycle. There’s a reason he’s ranked where he’s at. Could another corner be serviceable and get the job done? Sure, but this guy could be a game changer that we need at corner

Highlights for a corner tell you very little. QB and CB are the two positions you really have to watch a full game to properly evaluate imo
Absolutely. A corner in high school shouldn’t have the gaudy stats. No one will go his way. But you mainly see their twitch, hips, length and speed on kick off and blitz’s mainly.
