Meet the new boss..... same as the old boss

99% of MY posts said that this QB situation is the worst anyone can remember at UT. I said send them all packing. Start a freshman and get him real game experience cause are not winning more than 4-5 games this year now that I have seen this offense.

Do you remember the Alan Cockrill years??? Fumbles at Georgia's 2 yard line with 22 seconds left....And couldn't score a point the next year.....

One of the poorest planned/coached efforts I have seen since, well last year.

Florida is a completely inept mess and they STILL hung 31 on us. If our offense could have moved the ball even a little bit we would have seen CBJ signature win. Even though after seeing how bad Florida is right now I would struggle to have called it a signature win, but rather a gift wrapped in a pretty bow.

Serious question to all the older Vol fans.... Is this the worst situation UT has ever faced at the QB position.

You know what they say, If you have four quarterbacks, you dont have one.

GO VOLS!
You are dead wrong. If you have no Jimmy's and Joe's then nothing a coach does matters. Just like Josh Smith playing possession receiver. What a joke he has hands of stone local boy or not.

Let's face it, the Vols are going to make quite a few bad teams look good, as Dooley said, it's our identiy. While some things have changed since last year, many things have remained the same.....like the Jimmy's and Joe's

Florida will lose at least 5 games. They still have to play Georgia, USC, and FSU. I'm sure there are other teams that can beat this sorry team too.

Who cares.....why are we concerned about FL are they good....no....what is pleasant to know is that they are not the Fl of old and appears to be headed downhill where we are on the rise.

This affects recruiting and when I see muschump on the side lines and his demeanor I laugh....degrading....kids today can't handle this berating.

The thing that makes me so sad and disappointed is not THAT we lost, but HOW we lose. We dont even look like an FCS team right now. I have no clue where Derek Dooley got these awful players. We had the chance of a century to beat Florida. And we may never have that same chance ever again. Florida will damn sure be back and Im sure it will happen when Tennessee is back, which means more losing to Florida. We blew the chance of a lifetime.

Speechless.

I cant believe Peterman had a better practice week that Worley. Sorry. I think Butch Jones buckled under the pressure to change QBs and he already knew he was going to Peterman. It was a busch league move to leave Peterman in as long as he did. With the opportunity of a lifetime staring him in the face.

CBJ is proving to be one stubborn SOB, but not in a good way.

If Jones is the kind of coach who will try to appease the legions of the miserable, as we now know he is, then the rest of us ought to shout those guys down. No one person can take on that mob, so more of the better folks need to speak up.

Our players did not lose the Florida game. The HC lost it for them. Now, I don't like saying that, but there is no way that the players should take the blame for Coach Jones playing Peterman for nearly the entire first half.

We don't have depth. Other teams are going to score on you when you lack depth. This is a simple concept. Lack of talent means a lack of performance. Lack of performance means a lack of wins.

we also dont have a viable QB at this point . This team looks pretty good when we get viable QB play . The running gaps open up , the defense is off the field and more effective when they are on it. There is no schematic or tweak that a coach can install when he doesnt have a QB that can execute it.

The OP will be singing Butches praises when we reach that point. The depth issue is not going to go away for a few years I am afraid .

Did you listen to the press conference ? Protection problems , drops , wrong routes...and there decision is based on what they have seen at practice . They were trying to get him into rhythm after they corrected the other issues. By that time he was rattled.

They had a valid thought process.

Not sure how people cannot look at the talent issue . We do not have a QB at this point . We have no overall depth. We have a freshman and walk-on group of receivers. It will be tough sledding until we get a qb ..one of these guys may come online as the seson progresses. We will still have depth issues that will cause fatigue late in games as the season progresses.

This is all predictable and independent of coaching

Older Vol here. There were times pre-Majors that the QB's were not playmakers. However, they generally had an RB or a WR that could do special things with the ball that they could feature to help out the situation. Not seeing much of that this season so far.

Let's cut to the chase. Butch is going with his system and trying to convert players to it that have been trained in other systems of Kiffin and Dools previously. Rewiring guys takes time. Butch could have adapted his system to the players he has, but I am sure Hart gave him the nod to do it this way when he was first hired. I think as the season continues you will see significant improvement. Two steps forward, one step back kind of progress. It will be 2015 before you see the results you want to see in the W/L column.

I agree. The thing that really concerns me is that CBJ's unwillingness to alter "his system" to fit the players we have reminds me a lot of the stubbornness that Fulmer had. Winners adapt quickly...like Florida did yesterday. I still have faith in CBJ and our players, just a little wary.

Cbj did leave Peterman in to long.He also should have called a time out before the first turnover as there was confusion before the snap.

One of the arguments last year was that "all the guys need are some real coaches"

I'd like to see some consistency on VN

Sorry, I can't abide the comparisons. I'm not calling Butch Vince Lombardi...but comparing him to Dooley is silly.

If Butch had Bray, Patterson and Hunter yesterday would have looked very different.

Serious question to all the older Vol fans.... Is this the worst situation UT has ever faced at the QB position.
GO VOLS!

It seems like there was a Jeff Francis vs. Randy Sanders battle following the Sugar Vols season. Francis turned out ok, though (of course it's hard not to do well when your receivers are Alvin Harper, Anthony Miller and Joey Clinkscales).

The Andy Kelly vs. Sterling Hinton battle was also uninspiring. Kelly did well during his tenure, but people were alarmed at our quarterback situation that season.

Dooley had a QB, and Hunter, Patterson, Rodgers, we do not have any play makers, so go pull for Vandy. Butch will get us back on top. Then you can jump back on the Vol wagon.

If you're implying that CBJ is the same as CDD, you're wrong.

Amen to that. I would follow CBJ through a fire being shot at, carrying an elephant on my back. He is a motivator and is all business. Dooley tried to be a comic. He was funny, but he made a joke out of serious stuff, then he ended up being a joke.

If you can't see a difference in the effort, heart, and attitude of the players then you are not paying attention.

Did you ever play football?

I'm 46, soon to be 47. I have been a Vols fan since the Condredge Holloway days. Coach Jones has a bigger rebuilding job then what Coach Majors had to deal with when he came marching home in 1977. It took Coach Majors about 5 to 8 years to get things stabilized. All we can do is support the Vols and Coach Jones, and as the Vols continue to improve the wins will come.

This game was the best chance to get the florida monkey off our back. And we couldn't even beat them with there back up QB. This was probably the worst florida team I can remember us ever facing. Man its so hard to think about we have lost to the Gators 9 damn times in a row. Its going to make it that much sweeter when Butch finally gives them a nice big **** burger to eat. And I have no doubt that Butch will have us back to the top of the heap of the SEC east its going to happen. We as fans should have no doubt that we got one hell of a coach. We better be counting our blessings that he didn't take a job some where else before we offered him. GO VOLS!
