Megan Rapinoe & The US Soccer Team

Then let them watch. Doesn't mean they deserve equal pay.
They deserve what the market will bear. If it is equal to men's soccer, then good for them. All I know is they don't get any of mine because it is BORING

The Chinese Chromebook generates revenue too. I have no problem with the women making an adequate percentage based on their revenue. If that's where they'd stop, fine. Demanding "equal pay" to men is asinine.

They deserve the same percentage of revenues they make as the men make....

Why do they 'deserve' it?

If the men make $100MM and got 40% of revenues, it wouldn't be fair if the women made $90MM and only got 30%.

In this scenario, the men and women should get the same percentage. If both got 40%, $40MM to the men and $36MM to the women would be fair. Not saying both deserve $40MM.

Most leagues set their CBAs and Salary Cap as a percentage of revenue. This should not be too hard.

I agree. It’s funny how some women's sports operate at a loss and they still complain about more pay. Just like I’m sure espn is willing to take a loss to run a women's sports channel.

LOL because it isn't 'fair'? THAT's your argument?

In life my friend you don't get what's fair, you get what you negotiate. The women obviously have inferior negotiators.

Reminds me of that guy who has ads in every airline magazine known to man.

“In life and business, you don’t get what you deserve. You get what you negotiate.”

Probably where I read that once upon a time.

Title is a bit misleading imo. She’s saying some weren’t playing “for the flag” - the country. That’s how I read it at least.

She said the "crest" which is the USWNT logo.

She gives no explanation of how things were toxic. All she explains is that things weren't the way she liked it. People didn't appear to put their teammates first?...that's not necessarily toxicity. If she had a bad attitude because she didn't fit in with the vibe, that's not necessarily on them.

BTW, Michael Jordan was fkn selfish and never put his teammates first but it was still a culture of winning and that worked for them.

The article I read, she was alluding to endorsement deals if I remember correctly. And pointed to 2015 as the time when the shift occurred.

Yeah, but how did those get in the way? How did that make things toxic? Was there jealousy? Was there ballhogging? Was somebody big-timing everybody?

She definitely stops short of calling out anyone specific. That’s prob by design.

And they were certainly still winning. It may have simply stopped being fun.

I wonder if she went into more detail on the podcast

I bet Jordan has never put anyone other than himself first

I met a lady once that was a manager of a casino near Chicago. She said the Bulls would come in there occasionally and play cards. I asked her if Rodman was as big a jerk as you would think and she said the opposite was true. She said he always took down the ropes around 'his' table and invited regular Joes to sit down and play. She didn't say anything about Jordan that I can remember, but when I asked her about Scotty Pippen she said "You mean... no tippin' Pippen'? She said he was the biggest ass that ever walked thru the front doors.

Sometimes that's a product of winning. It's not fun to win and have many Americans react with, "they're supposed to win." Or "nobody cares." And if they lose, Americans say, "what a choke job." Or "nobody cares." Or "Good." because of the politics of your teammates.

They might've got more media attention for the olympics and WC losses than they did the wins.

Not too hard to read between the lines but in her opinion, it got toxic when certain members of the USWNT took more of an interest in political issues. She told all of this to Hope, who has a longtime grudge with the more outspoken members. I think Carli wanted to just play soccer while others werent. That is what created the toxic environment in her opinion. Hope is nutter than squirrel poo but she has been talking about the issues relating to the political stances for years now.

Yeah, you can read between the lines and guess she was talking about politics, and I think that's very likely, but what about it was toxic? Was she mistreated because she stood? There is a big difference between "I was mistreated" and "People put politics first." One is toxic. The other is not.

I'm pretty sure if she actually got bullied, she would say something specific. She probably just felt like an outsider and had nothing specific to point to.

Maybe politics was too prevalent. Maybe she was ostracized due to beliefs. Probably some jealousy towards attention others (Rapinoe) received. In 2015 (the date she pointed out), Carly was a better player than Rapinoe and had a great world cup finale.

I mean, being 38 or however old she is doesn't help. This happens in other sports. The old vet has a hard time relating to a team mostly full of people in their 20s.
