Megan Rapinoe & The US Soccer Team

I don’t care about what other countries care about. I know in the United States people would rather watch 6 year olds play soccer than the supposed professional adults.

You said "nobody" which couldn't be further from the truth, even within the confines of the US. Furthermore, who gives a damn what you care about?

14 million Americans watched the women's final. Those are good numbers for the World Series.

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/07/10/us-...world-cup-final-was-higher-than-the-mens.html

But what about when the women win it and get $4m in prize $ + other sponsorship $ and the men don't qualify?

Lots of people care. Over a billion mother****ing people on the planet watched Megan Rapinoe in the women's WC final.

This is not accurate. Over 1 billion watched the world cup tournament in aggregate. Roughly 80+ million watched the actual final although it is estimated an additional 170M walked by a TV while it was on.

But hey, 80M world wide was impressive to me for women's soccer. I would have expected far less.

The men's 2018final had 517M viewers with another 500M hitting it while channel surfing. Total viewership for 2018 was around 3.5B for the men.

Thanks for the clarification. And as you allude, the point remains, 80m isn't "nobody".

Would love to see a USMNT v USWNT exhibition.

They can't beat a good U15 boys team. To be fair, that Dallas FC team was really, really good and will have players that will play professionally.

My son is an 04 and guest played a few years back in a tourney when they went against that Dallas FC U15 (03s) that beat the USWMT.

True but that team wasn't the best in the world, and who's players only job was playing soccer.

There are about 100 people in here who agree that the only thing that matters is revenue, so IDK why people keep on bringing up the U15 boys team.

If the supposed best women players we have can’t beat some teenage boys they don’t deserve a dime let alone equal pay. They’re basically getting charity pay for just existing.

Did some reading into the current topic. It was a glorified kick-around just meant to help loosen the USWNT up before tournament entry. There was no desire to win, and the Dallas U15 parent club took their story down because of its misuse by misogynists.

Even when they bring in comparable revenue? Your take doesn't make much sense
I’ve tried to find a real breakdown of their claims, revenue, ect to try and understand where the disparity is, but I haven’t seen much other than the generic claims of being paid less. I thought there was a year or two when the original lawsuit was filed however many years ago where they found some of the women made more than the men. But again, I can’t find anything actually breaking it all down. Did USSA really not pay them according to their collective bargaining agreement? Did men receive extra benefits? Or are they trying to claim all revenue between USMNT and USWNT should be like SEC football bowl money that is pooled where payouts are distributed between all the teams?

It seems to me like their main gripe is that fifa pays out hundreds of millions for men’s World Cup teams and the next women’s World Cup will pay around 60 million. The men’s team that compete will make substantially more. Is that based on revenue?

Understood, but why would the most skilled women in the world still not stomp a bunch of 14 & 15 you boys who haven’t completed puberty? The parents took it down because it was an embarrassment to USWNT

Again, while a MacBook Pro and a Chinese Chromebook are both laptops, they're not the same product and don't command the same price. Quality has nothing to do with the silly repeated "misogyny" claim. Women's soccer is simply an inferior product when compared to men's soccer.

Those boys were the cream of the crop for the age group. It's not a bunch of random 14 year olds. My son has camped at FC Dallas, I know a couple of the parents there, and we've played against them once before. Yes, it was a scrimmage but the response was sanitized for sure.

I have seen part of the tape and the women were more skilled. They maintained possession more than the boys The open substitutions helped the boys, and some women that would never play in a USWNT got in. The difference was the USWNT's back line was small and slower and that's where the goals came from.

Back to the point at hand, the men and women deserve the same percentage of revenues. I haven't dug into the numbers. I know it gets complicated since US soccer is the middleman with the sponsorship/TV deals and you may get some debate which gender earned the sponsorship/TV deals. If the men earn more revenues, they deserve to get paid more. If the women do, then they deserve more.

Then let them watch. Doesn't mean they deserve equal pay.
I didn’t say they deserve equal pay

most would say college basketball is an inferior product to nba basketball. both can generate revenue. Just different

The Chinese Chromebook generates revenue too. I have no problem with the women making an adequate percentage based on their revenue. If that's where they'd stop, fine. Demanding "equal pay" to men is asinine.
