Megan Rapinoe & The US Soccer Team

What?

the Conacacaf Nations Cup is about 3 steps down, at least, from the World Cup. most Americans didn't even know the the US was in the finals, but every American knows when the world cup is going on. Not necessarily because they care, but its out there. Conacacaf league play is never mentioned. I doubt they were even broadcast on the same networks/options.

I am not even sure what to compare it to. Closest I can come to is like saying viewership for the Maui Invitational should be the same as March Madness in basketball.
The only reason I knew about the nation's cup was that the US actually played Mexico WHILE WE WERE IN MEXICO. So, the game was on everywhere.

In no way am I saying that the women are outdoing the men. That wasn't the point. The point was that the women had big viewership, LOL. There was no need to come in and defend the men. We all realize the WC is bigger than the Nations League cup. That goes without saying, but thanks for saying it.

I should have said it had more viewership than any TV program that weekend. Are those events comparable? Even less so. But it would have avoided this annoyance.
haven't once defended the men. just pointed out you made a real bad point comparing the viewership numbers as if it proved something.

saying it was the most watched thing on TV that day would be a good, standalone comment.

I am willing to bet the WWC has better viewership opportunities than anything the Nation's cup could offer. which would also weigh in on total viewership numbers.

I haven't watched a second of it, but I have seen games on the cable guide, maybe even on ESPN?

The Nations League final was on CBS Sports Network all the other matches were only on Paramount +. The WWC is on Fox and FS1. The WNT match vs Netherlands last Wednesday was on Fox at 10pm eastern

This will all blow over eventually. Rapinoe is dead legs walking. She’s leaving soon.

New leader. New and rejuvenated culture.
It will be about the actual games and competition again.

The US Women will start dominating again. People will come back.

He is 11. And hates running for sustained periods... Lol. It's gonna be funny
I played up to college. Fun game when you get to the travel level. More physical. Think lacrosse without the pads. I, too, hate running. But running to get a ball is different than running just to run. I hated conditioning for that reason.

Im excited he is actually gonna try to play a sport. Lol. I'm a huge baseball and football guy...played in both college...he is s scared of football and played 1 season of baseball but nothing took..hopefully something will...I think organized sports is essential for young men especially....the have to learn to fail and work harder...

Soccer at a young age did wonders for my son in every other sport. The footwork and speed crosses over and gave him a distinct advantage.

Whatever happened to that thread that was a clearing house for a few angry posters to repeatedly tell us they didn't like sport x, have never watched sport x, and some player they'd never heard of said something they didn't like, so they'll continue not watching sport x, while also saying the player should shut up and play sports ball?

I'm excited for him. All the luck to him.

This extends beyond Rapinoe, this team is really unlikable. The whining, the chirping, the body language, the "Me" ball.

Rapinoe is griping in the press about playing time and she was absolute trash against Portugal (She wasn't the only one)...

That's just soccer, right?

Rapinoe is the leader. The team is a reflection of her.

She’s washed up, and will be gone soon.

Hopefully the next leader will usher in a new rejuvenated era of the US Women once again being about playing badass soccer and dominating.

They’ll be loved again.

Posted something similar in a different thread because I didn't realize some of you talk soccer lol.
Japan is scary good right now. If this team somehow beats Sweden, I don't know if they beat Japan. The best counter attack in the world game.
Even with rapinoe on the team, I will always cheer my country on. These women don't know how to play team ball yet. Maybe we hold on to older players to be leaders too long, see Morgan. Maybe we just put too many young women on the team thinking people would be scared.
The for sure thing is if they don't start playing together, it's a disappointing dismissal tomorrow. At the least, a whipping by Japan. We'll try again in a few years.

Agreed.

Some Americans make it more difficult. But it’s about the Red, White, & Blue.

Japan was the last team to eliminate USWNT 12 years ago (in the final) and Sweden was 3rd place
