Mel Kiper Take on Bray Entering the Draft

When will we find out if Bray would fit into Jones' offensive scheme?

Spring practice, assuming that Bray actually heeds Kiper's advice, which, of course, is not a given. Despite Bray's incumbent status, I imagine that Coach Jones will declare the position open for competition, since Jones did not recruit him and has not previously coached him.

In the Georgia and Mizz game we gave up a total of 102 points and scored 92 points?? Trend maybe? MSU game we give up 41 points and scored 31 points. 30 or 40 points ought to win ball games right? Tyler blew it? lol

Did you see the last drives for the mizzou and UGA games?? He blew it....

Regardless, your point is moot. Their defenses were just as bad as ours were those games but in the final seconds the throat slasher couldn't pull it out.

Yes. I would welcome Bray back but unless the draft experts tell him he won't be drafted, I can't see why he would. He is a pure drop back passer, our new system will require more mobility for the QB and emphasize the running game more. Assuming Hunter and CP are gone, the WR's will be new. Isn't this a no-brainer for him?

Our offense would be based entirely around our passing efficiency next. That is without question.

What about when he blew it in the georiga, mizzou, and MSU games? I've seen him have some pretty big let downs, some balls that I've said where the heck was that going. I think UT needs to move on.

Mizzou? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Was he playing defense on 4th and 14 when they converted!

What do you mean by passing efficiency? High percentage completion but lower yards per reception? So less long throws?

If so, that would also seem to be a negative for Bray but maybe he could adjust his game.

Yes that is exactly what I mean quick short throws where the receivers can create missed tackles. Go back and watch the cinci UT game from last year. I think you'll see what I mean.

It's a Catch-22 situation for him. On the one hand, NFL draft position could be improved significantly by coming back, demonstrating greater maturity, mastery of his craft and big-game performance. As you point out, however, he will be the proverbial square peg in a round hole in Coach Jones' offense, and he stands to lose most of the receiving corps with whom he has previously played. In the final analysis, I expect him to do the unwise thing and declare early.

I think Bray is a really good QB. He just hasn't developed that clutch gene yet. When the game was on the line he failed to deliver more often that not. I think he will be a lot better in those situations now that he has more experience.

Ok. It's my opinion. I've also had a career at reading people. What I have seen on the field is what I am basing my opinion on.
This career in reading people....is it through a TV screen? Do those people usually wear helmets most of the time?

Thanks. I would actually welcome that offense with our current personnel. Seems like that would result in fewer turnovers, longer time consuming drives, thereby keeping our defense off the field.

Like Purdue with Chaney and Tiller? "Basketball on grass" as it was called...

Lots of crossing confusion routes that gets the ball in the play makers hands.

This evaluation is dead on. Personally, I'm tired of his attitude and lack of true leadership ability. Face it...it's not where it needs to be. He doesn't have that "refuse to lose" competitive drive that is needed to be great. I may get bashed, but it's the truth. I love his skill set, but he is missing the intangibles that special Qb's have. Who knows, maybe he stays one more year, shows more maturity, and thrives under a new coach. Personally I don't think he really respected Dooley. JMO!
