this thread is so full of inaccuracies its funny. Yes, Memphis is a little down right now from what we usually are. However, Memphis is the best program in the state and its not close. Here are some facts (all based on ESPN's website team pages):

-Memphis has more NCAA tournament wins (32) than TN and Vandy COMBINED (25)

-Memphis has more elite 8s (6) than TN and Vandy COMBINED (2)

-Memphis has 32 NCAA wins. All the other 10 Div 1 schools in the state have 34 COMBINED.

Also, I found it funny that people in this thread wanted to compare NCAA apperances (Tigers lead Vols 22-19) but no one brought up NCAA wins (32-16 Tigers)

and for the guy who has only been watching bball for 5 years- Pearl's tenure and TN's best run ever, during that time......

Here are some more facts: Tennessee ran ALL OVER Memphis this year, Memphis is not doing a good job in a pitiful conference.

THey havent beat anybody this year!!! I will say that the OT wins against Austin Peay and Arkansas State are impressive!!! NOT REALLY. I live in memphis and now realize how stupid memphis fans are!!! You're an idiot to say Memphis is good. Tennessee beat them like a red headed step child. Good luck in the NIT if yall make it!!!

Blowing a 20 point lead in the Sweet 16 against Ohio State in 2007. Getting run by Louisville in the Sweet 16 in 2008. These ring a bell?

Let's see. One year after the former coach gutted the program (4 scholarship players leftover, 1 starter), the Tigers went 24-10 with a last minute, patched together team, and won 1 game in the NIT. Most Memphis fans didn't expect to make a post season tournament last year. What exactly is there to be embarrassed about? Better yet, how good would the Vols be next year if your coach leaves, all the recruits back out of their LOI, and the only returning players are Bone, McBee, Pearl, and Golden? Would that team with a bunch of walk ons even have a winning OOC record?

Or, your team is a #2 seed (and many Vol fans b**tched they should have been a #1), and you get run on national tv by a less talented squad. It's about expectations vs. results, my friend.

But Alabama keeps beating everyone and winning championships. You guys just beat Memphis then flame out. If your claim to fame is beating Memphis then it definitely shows you how important our program is.

We beat Memphis last season and did'nt flame out. It is incredibile how tiger fans think they are a rival for UT.
