We beat Memphis last season and did'nt flame out. It is incredibile how tiger fans think they are a rival for UT.
Im sorry, I thought we were talking about programs and history, not this years team. Should I claim that we had a better football team in 1996 because we beat you all? Must be true listening to the logic around here.
How convenient. Let's just ignore this year even though crappy Josh Pastner will be your coach for the foreseeable future, and let's instead brag about a coach that left and a season that was vacated. Very relevant.
So 1 year out of 20+, UTK didn't flame out and made it past the E8. Great job.
99.9% of Tiger fans consider Louisville our biggest rival. Unfortunately, the Cards refuse to play the Tigers. Next would be Cincy, then UAB. Next, because of past NCAA tournament history, Tiger fans loathe UCLA and KU.
UTK is simply a nice regional regular season game between in state rivals. One that hangs it's season on the game, the other that on average plays in the Final Four once every 12 years.
Im not forgetting this year butIm also not using it as a measuring stick. We have one guy playing right now that had significant D1 experience before this season. I didnt expect to challenge for the title.
However, I still love the Cal years, the Kirk years, the Finch years (player and coach) and we have been to a Final Four in three decades. Its obvious we arent going to agree but the response about "crappy Josh Pastner" shows your immaturity and lack of understanding about the game of basketball. We are the fourth youngest D1 team this year out of ~300. Very little experience. We will get better. However, will you?
ID also like to say I find it hilarious that you call me a "notre dame football fan" when your avatar shows you are a Duke and UTK fan. Makes it a lot easier to be an ass now doesnt it? Maybe I should start pulling for a bunch of teams? Nah, because Im loyal to my alma mater and enjoy watching them succeed in sports.
Young team or not, Josh Pastner is a really bad coach. Depending on who we hire, and it's not hard to outdo what you guys did, we'll be just fine.
hahahaha!! someone needs to get you a Bball 101 book.
Yeah, I'm sure coaches will be jumping at the chance to replace Pearl -- NCAA sanctions, decimated roster, and no chance to recruit the high school hoops hotbed in his own state. Look at TN's track record of successful coaches over the last 20-30 yrs: Wade Houston, O Neil, Buzz, Green. I mean, everyone wins big in Knoxville
Meanwhile, 4 different coaches in 4 different decades have taken us to an elite 8. A feat matched only 1 time EVER in Knoxville. Over the last 40 years, 4 of the 7 coaches at Memphis have won a sweet 16 game. Only Yates coached more than 2 years and didnt.
Memphis = best program in Tennessee. End of discussion.
